Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

Price is the reason we were so late making our first trip to Scillies and when it was mentioned I always compared what we could do with the money, like two weeks in France.

If you fly in, assuming good weather, it is stunning and it’s certainly different from most other UK locations.

Please can this thread be moved elsewhere? It quite clearly now has nothing to do with overseas sites and touring.

I disagree. It has everything you do with touring and was always about UK and overseas comparisons re costs and the OP refers to costs of visiting the Scillies just up page.

It does if you consider the Scottish Islands, Ireland and the Scillies to be overseas.  laughing

"There wouldn’t be much change out of maybe £3000 for the pair of us for accommodation and travel"

Wow!!! could take the caravan down to Spain for 3 months for that laughingincluding the ferry.

We could probably do it a lot cheaper, but that’s the whole point.😉 It’s somewhere we would like to go and spoil ourselves. I have flown out, and if you do it on a good day, sun shining, it’s unique. A whole different world right on our doorstep, much like the Scottish Isles, another experience that we have only tinkered with. I’d like to go before it gets totally changed by popularity. 😁

Why don’t you start your own thread JD, and stipulate that it’s for only those who tour overseas, no deviations allowed? I can promise not to post, but I am finding the information from those who do on here very interesting, and it’s giving us some good tips.
Starting your own thread is always best if you are bored with what others are enjoying, rather than asking for something to be stopped just because it no longer fulfills your specific needs.

I think you may need to visit for the day again as a quick check just now shows virtually no availability for 2021!

Keeping fingers crossed that there may be some foreign travel, and think that come the school holidays there could be, as it’s likely that will be more availability than here.

It won’t be this year, but I did find something with a swimming pool doing a casual search, reasonable price as well.
We are down in Marazion in September🤞so will catch up with things down there, caring duties and ill health have meant we have missed a few years, so we are so pleased to be heading down again. Will even cope with crowds, although going for an event so expect to be in the midst of things at least for one day😁

Personally I doubt many summer holidays abroad in Europe this year

Sadly, I tend to agree, given the current vaccination rates.
