Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

It’s a definite possible for us. Even taking the pooch. It’s the flights and the travel getting to airport that pile on the ££s for us, but it could be something for a special trip. Train into London, sleeper to Penzance, sky bus to St Mary’s in a self catering option. Hop around on island day trips, the reverse travel back home. There wouldn’t be much change out of maybe £3000 for the pair of us for accommodation and travel, but it looks a nice option for something special, very relaxing as well, just have to do the travel link ups. Could save a good bit if we took MH down and left it at airport I suppose......

They act on requests DT, if you want a thread locking just post-‘perhaps it has run its course now and the mods may wish to lock it’ I’m not sure if all of us can use the magic words or just certain posters but it has worked recently👍🏻

I doubt I would feel good on that crossing ever☹️ I have done Greek island hopping, and lots of times on CalMac Ferries without any problems, but it was bad, made me very wary of any type of sea crossing. But I get ill in certain cars (Citroen’s 🤢), coaches, buses. Ended up in hospital with severe travel sickness a couple of years ago in our own MH🤷‍♀️, so it’s a lottery with me. Fine on trains so long as I can face forwards. Cycling seems ok so far🤔😁

Price is the reason we were so late making our first trip to Scillies and when it was mentioned I always compared what we could do with the money, like two weeks in France.

If you fly in, assuming good weather, it is stunning and it’s certainly different from most other UK locations.

This was mentioned on another forum this morning and there may be other ‘experts’ with different views but I think the last paragraph of the report sums it up well.

”We know that universal, restriction-free travel is unlikely from 17 May but under a tiered system, based on risk, international travel can meaningfully restart and build up, with minimal restrictions in time."
