Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

When people take UK holidays on the south coast they'll be able to see all the laid up cruise ships, it's quite a sight. Some of the cruise companies are planning to do greatly reduced smaller cruises around the UK. There people out there who've travelled all over the world but don't know the British Isles, this is an opportunity for some! wink

Indeed it is Brue. We are looking at our UK bucket list at the moment, might as well do some of these while we can’t venture further. Lots of great stuff to do in this country, that’s why millions of of tourists come here each year😂

I think a lot of folks have been pleasantly surprised by what’s on their doorstep if they choose to venture out. I admire Corners for last year, amazing rides out exploring his county👍 Costs very little as well, just requires a bit of exercise, a well packed sandwich and a map!

Italy now have an "ambulance" train to distribute covid cases around other areas to try to relieve pressure on city hospitalssurprised

And still they want to "pause" the Oxford jab ,although the latest "scare"? is from far fewer people than get clots from contraceptive pills"

When I first read of 'Covid clot deaths' I went on the internet and read medical reports from several years ago. If you believe the numbers being vaccinated with AZ who have developed clots you would almost be forgiven for believing that the vaccine prevents blood clots! The rise in numbers of cases in many parts of Europe are far from convincing and the rates of vaccination in the EU overall makes me wonder whether the English version of the virus will overtake any effects of the vaccine in reducing cases

I don’t think I am ever likely to forget standing within a few metres of this and even going under the falls and looking through an opening at the back of the water curtain. The ground literally shaking and noise overpowering.

However we have had equally enjoyable holidays in the Peak District, 45 miles from home. Just different.😀

Edit Oh it was in a MH, so sort of on topic.😂

Excellent post, Steve - and that's exactly as it should be, memories can be made and cherished anywhere. We've travelled further afield over the past few years with more time to do so. We've done that Niagara Falls experience, along with the CN Tower in Toronto, cruised up to Alaska and watched the face of a glacier collapse in Glacier Bay. We've bathed in warm springs in Costa Rica, watched leopards in South Africa and watched Buddhist ceremonies at the Temple of the Tooth in Sri Lanka. All fantastic experiences. But so is climbing to the tops of the lakeland fells with our dogs, racing the train at Tywyn in Wales (in my much younger days!) and unexpectedly spotting a pod of dolphins off the Cornish coast while eating our fish & chip supper up at Droskyn Point in Perranporth.

Memories are what you make of them whether at home or overseas, none are intrinsically better than the other, just all memorable for different reasons.  smile

I've only ever cruised with Grey Funnel Liners ..... 🙄

I still have nightmares about the Scillonian😂 Second only to a rather overcrowded Greek ship plying the islands and overtaken by a storm. When the water empties out of the swimming pool because the boat is plunging around so badly, you know it ain’t the adventure you expected😱

Manchester Ship Canal is one I want to repeat, that was different, and very interesting👍

It all seems a bit nonsensical to me. If available figures are to be believed, a Frenchman is 25 times more likely to be killed in a road accident in the average year, than a blot clot caused by the AZ vaccine. If indeed a causal link is established. Trouble is the French were not keen on being vaccinated in the first place and this can only delay a return to the new normal.

17 million have had the AZ jab (at least first). Less than 40 have experienced blood clot issues. You might as well blame the AZ vaccine if you get hit by a bus the day after having it🤷‍♀️ Good to have a bit of research and verification going on, but meanwhile, more might die because they haven’t been vaccinated.

I've been there too, when they were partly frozen into gigantic cliffs of ice...but I was also glad to get home when the trip was over even though my Dad was brought up over there. One of my best moments was reaching the most northerly point of the UK and looking even further north towards Muckle Flugga!  (I like writing those words, not something you see written very often and worth the long journey.)
