Vacation V Staycation Costs

We sadly accepted a while back that our hoped for trip abroad, in May/June, would not be happening and have booked on a two week rally in June-which we are very much looking forward to.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking at options for July/August and wondered how prices compare.

Normally we would go abroad at the times I mention so never look to see how over there compares with here.

Anyway, just looked at the price for a 10 day stay at sites of similar levels of quality and facilities, one in Cornwall and one in the Vendee.

The price for Cornwall, at Pentewan Sands, is £498.10.

The price for France at La Yole via the club and including a BF overnight crossing with cabin is £488.36

We don't go 'over there' to save money but its another example to show that considering 'going' as opposed to 'staying' need not cost a lot more.

Nor for us either Corners. We happily survived two weeks of torrential rain in South Wales a few years ago, but never got bored, didn’t stop us doing much, still had a great time. It’s a mind set for us, we just take what is thrown at us, rain or shine, come what may. 😁

Yes as I've said many times, it's the people with you that make a holiday. The fact that you're not at work, or actually not at home, and no 'worries'.

DK, I hope your cruise cost quote was only for 1 person, either that or its been a long time since you did a cruise😂 the cruises we have been looking at are more like £3500 pp for a 14 night cruise.

TG

I think I mentioned £2000 for a cruise for two of us. Just checked P&O for next year for a similar 7 day cruise to the Fjords which was the last one we did and they are quoting £1100 each for a balcony cabin. Previously (10 years ago) we did a 10 day cruise and I think that was obviously more expensive, I think about £2500? The point of the quote was not so much to do with cruises but the comparison between that type of holiday cost associated with being in Europe with the van.

no wonder people have left for other forums

That is because it has become very boring, Post are rarely informative and the content reflects they are obviously made by those with little else to do but hover over a keyboard all day. Hopefully all will change when travel becomes possible again?

Yup but France and Italy are likely to go on it. For us it is a case, of would we want to go anywhere within the EU at present....probably not, and as many EU countries have now suspended use of the Oxford vaccine, which will bring the vaccine programme within the EU almost to a grounding halt, irrespective of cost and sunshine we will not be going laughing

Italy now have an "ambulance" train to distribute covid cases around other areas to try to relieve pressure on city hospitalssurprised

And still they want to "pause" the Oxford jab ,although the latest "scare"? is from far fewer people than get clots from contraceptive pills"
