OS map Grid Refs gone!!

Is there a good reason why the new Club Sites Directory is not showing OS Grid Refs?

Surely I can't be the only member who still likes to see exactly where I will be towing to?

Google Maps sometimes does not show the CL / field clearly. A pinpoint location with the OS map sorts that out. Or rather, it did.

A black mark for the CL dept at the Club. Could do better.

I'm just glad I kept the previous club handbook. I can refer to it to find the O.S. grid references for the CLs I'm going to.

4 CLs recently booked in areas new to us, 4 OS maps ordered. Not only can I see exactly where I'm going, I can see what else is in the areas that I might find of interest whilst I'm there. I can plan my explorations now and not wait until I'm there.

Bring back the grid references!!!!

Along the corridor and up the stairs stays with you all your life.....once learned.

"Through the close and up the stair,

"Ben the hoose with Burke and Hare,

"Burke's the murderer, Hare's the thief,

"Knox the boy who buys the beef"

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your comments and feedback. With regards to more fillers (the blue boxes) being used, these are only added to the pages to fill gaps after the site data is flowed in and where the next site wouldn’t fit onto the page. They don’t take up any additional room as there would have just been a white space where they have been fitted.

The addition of the ‘No toilet block’ symbol and the Open All Year text is as a direct result of feedback from a large number of CL Owners who have advised they have arrivals not realising that they don’t have a toilet block and then not staying, as well as CL owners asking us to do more to promote winter opening, as they didn’t feel that the ‘12’ symbol made this clear enough.

With regards to not using Sat Nav to navigate to a site, we would always recommend that you use the written directions given in the book to all Club Sites and CLs, as using a map or sat nav to navigate to a site may send you down an unsuitable route for towing or large vehicles.

All changes to the book are generally from member or CL owner feedback, we don’t change things without there being calls from one of these parties to do so. A lot of effort goes in to producing the Sites Directory so it is really disappointing to read that the removal of the OS map references has inconvenienced you, but we do need to make changes to accommodate other requests at times. More CLs have a range of facilities these days, more CLs also have website addresses and emails than they did a few editions ago – all of these take up more room to include.

We are monitoring all your feedback which we very much appreciate and the Editor of the Sites Directory and Handbook is regularly checking this discussion.

Rowena writes "All changes to the book are generally from member or CL owner feedback, we don’t change things without there being calls from one of these parties to do so".

I cannot imagine any CL owner or member requesting that it is made more difficult to accurately locate a CL.

Thank you for the information Rowenna, but I think you are being "led up the garden path" by someone.  You write:-

(the blue boxes) being used, these are only added to the pages to fill gaps after the site data is flowed in and where the next site wouldn’t fit onto the page.

I have looked through the Club Site section of the handbook and the first five instances of the use of a "blue filler" there are immediately followed by a single page site description.

It is not even that they are being used to pad out the number of pages in each section so that the next region consistently starts on a right-hand page, or to replace sites that closed during the preperation period - we are not loosing that many sites!

The handbook needs only a web address or E Mail, not both. The CL owners website should have relevant contact info.

Hi Navigateur, Sorry for the confusion, this was referring to the blue boxes in the CL section rather than the Club Site section.

I totally agree about the loss of map references in the sites directory.  It really is quite disgraceful, and makes locating a CL in advance very difficult.  I hope they are restored in the next edition

Rowena as there appears to be a requirement by members for the O/S Grid references, until a decision has been made whether to re-locate them back in the sites directory,  is it at all possible we could have them posted on here as a link so that those requiring CL O/S references could then download them.
