Increase size of CLs?

Why Are CLs only allowed 5 vans, is it the government, local councils? If so perhaps the Club could lobby for an increase.

Isn't it time CLs were given permission to have more than 5 vans, many do anyway unofficially!

Perhaps it could be allowed to double to 10 vans, but only if they had a certain acreage?

I wouldn't like to see them over stuffed with vans but it would help both caraanners have more choice and scope and perhaps make it more financialily viable for owners.

Instead of looking at the legislation the club is happier to promote Haven which provides all singing all dancing pitches off season (when CC and Cls are at their quietest). No wonder Cls close when you can have an Europitch in Haven at £9-90 per night in May all in.  I know that the mjority of Cl closures are as a result of going "commercial" and its easy to get the planning even in a NatPark. for tourists

Write your comments here...But that is Haven offering the discounts that are available to anyone it is not the CC so whats your point?

Competition is increasing and it may be that some Cls will survive wth  increased capacity particularly if they want to add EHU and hard standings which are now a necessity for most vaners particulaly in our wet/cold Spring/Autumn/Winter.

Why do you believe that closures are because of going commercial? Have I missed something? It would be interesting to know why sites close but until the CC publish the reasons as they used to I suspect we will never know.

Why can't we just leave things as they are????

Is it too much to ask that members abide by the rules that they agreed to by joining the CC???

Well said Brian. I for one am also happy to leave things as they are as it seems to work well.

Me too!!

At least one of the recent CL closures has gone to 15 vans, still on their original site. Paxton House in the Scottish Borders. A favourite of Nelliethehooker.    Kellysmum

I noticed that it had closed, and did wonder if it was because it had gone commercial. The field is quite large, but I would think that it would be a bit of a tight squeeze to fit 15 vans in there. Unless they've put in road and hard standings it could very well be a bit muddy if wet, and it always rains in Scotland, doesn't it?

Brian I also thought 15 on the same area might be a bit tight and no sign on their webpage of HS. NO it doesn't always rain in Scotland it just seems like it ! Lovely warm day here today but black clouds hovering later in the afternoon which thankfully passed us by !

I am always intrigued to read about the massive expense it is to put in Hard Standings, Electric and Water.  With a little bit of thought you put your underground electric and water pipes spaced out in the area at the bottom of the Hard Standings, fill with rubble that a local builder or skip hire company want to get rid of, sometimes delivering free, and blind off with clean 20mm gravel  for maybe £300 / £500  and the expense of hiring a JCB for a day or so, and you might even be able to sell the clean top soil to an avid gardener.  You then need an electrician to couple wires and certify. Water connections are easily done by any handyman with Alkathene piping.  Not really too difficult if you don't make it too fancy.

Brilliant - I belive you need a licence to tip waste (rubble), it should also be armoured cable for the electrics, its not just a question of coupling them as you should also be connecting to a consumer unit that meets current regs,   hire a JCB and employ a workman - its already sounding expensive for 5 caravans!

Then if you ever want to return it to a field you have to pay to remove someone elses rubble and buy top soil Frown
