CL advice in current situation

"The government has also urged the public to take further steps to protect themselves and the wider population from the coronavirus, including:

Everyone to stay at home unless they need to get essential supplies such as food and medicines. "

The above is the latest from the Govt. That means everyone to stay at home. It doesn’t mean sites of all descriptions can carry on irresponsibly encouraging visitors because those potential visitors should stay at home. Sites must close for the good of all.

Cholsey, you are amongst the irresponsible.

I disagree that Cholsey is being irresponsible, not lest because the Government has not issued an instruction for all such businesses to close. It has done so for pubs, clubs etc to close and has previously issued closure/isolation instructions to farms and similar during, for example, Foot & Mouth epidemics, so why not now? Why is the Chief Medical Officer not advocating closure and issuing clarification on exercise periods/styles et al?

Until the Government issues comprehensive and linked instructions, democracy demands that individuals remain free to make decisions that others might find objectionable.

I prefer to remain clear of people for most of the day but am privileged to live in an area where I can walk almost free from contact with others, certainly at more than 5 metres in most instances. I respect the right of fellow human beings to make their choices within the law as currently defined, including adoring grandparents who choose to risk chills, colds et al,including coronavirus by bending down, back to the biting wind from the Firth of Forth, to make sandcastles with their grandkids. I think they're being daft, but that is their right at present.

Sadly, when I'm in the local Co op, which has barely enough space to allow 1 metre between shoppers, I have no idea whether the person in front of, or the one behind me [or both], is one of those potentially infected grandparents.

I don’t disagree with that, Steve, but when people are told to stay at home and not undertake unnecessary travel is irresponsible. It may not yet be unlawful but it surely cannot be condoned.

For those of you who wish to stay at home, please do so, if you feel that is necessary, but please don't try to influence CL's that you have no intentions of visiting.

CL's may well be a place of sanctuary for NHS and other urgent care employees, to relax for a few days ..... bring their own supplies, use their own facilities.

We are well aware of the risks and are responsible people, but we will use CL's as long as they're open!

Which bit of STAY AT HOME don’t people understand?
It’s not about YOU - it’s about S P R E A D I N G the virus. You don’t know if you’ve got it or are carrying it. The club won’t give advice to CL owners anymore than they could give me a straight answer about sites staying open. Wealth before health - whoever coined that phrase was spot on.

I'm a little surprised they can instruct CLs to close after all they are independent. Was it a mandatory request? I guess the only sanction that could be imposed is withdrawal of certification.

Have the Clubs been forewarned of the Govenment's intention to close all touring campsites? I shall watch the news with interest.

Exactly, PD. If the exemption certification is suspended, the CLs will be operating illegally without planning consent. That should focus the minds of owners.

This move by the club has effectively removed the major benefit of membership from us for at least three months.

How do the club intend to redress this ?
