CL advice in current situation

Assuming that you mean the Coronavirus - as a CL Owner, I have received no advice from the Club.

We are keeping an eye on the news and will adapt as commonsense dictates.  Our CL is open as normal, and we have guests on-site at present.  The only difference is that we are maintaining more of a social distance from our guests.

We do not have a toilet / shower block, so our guests are self-contained and welcome to self-isolate if they wish.

For those who wish to join us, we are in a nice rural area, with pleasant views and our guests find our free Wi-Fi very useful for keeping in touch with family.

All the Best,

Ian Kelly

The club is (for the moment) keeping Club sites open.  They have not advised CLs to either close, or stay open.  They respect our rights as independent businesses to make that decision ourselves, based, of course, on Government Advice.

Interpretation of that advice seems to differ depending on your stance and which bits of advice you listen to / understand.  On the one hand the Chief Medical Officer suggests that enjoying the countryside, getting exercise etc. is beneficial for mental and physical health during this stressful time.  Other advice recommends not travelling (although the current specific advice relates to public transport).

Many members seem to feel that a caravan or motorhome is an ideal place to keep away from hordes of people, others feel that if they visit tourist hotspots (like Cornwall) that have limited healthcare facilities they could be contributing to a burden.

As the club has chosen to keep club sites open, many CLs are following their lead, but around 20% (so far) seem to be closing.

The club did write (by email) to CL owners this week and advise us that;

  • The CL team is working from home, but will support us as best they can.
  • They understand the challenges we face, including the lack of income for 2020.
  • They will not get involved in decisions about the carrying-forward of bookings or return of deposits.
  • They will update CL information pages on the Club Website regarding closures / changes of facilities offered etc.

Let's all hope that the promised Govt. support means that CLs can weather this storm.

One thing is for sure, when this has all blown through, the CL network will need the support of members even more.

"The government has also urged the public to take further steps to protect themselves and the wider population from the coronavirus, including:

Everyone to stay at home unless they need to get essential supplies such as food and medicines. "

The above is the latest from the Govt. That means everyone to stay at home. It doesn’t mean sites of all descriptions can carry on irresponsibly encouraging visitors because those potential visitors should stay at home. Sites must close for the good of all.

Cholsey, you are amongst the irresponsible.

I sincerely hope the club now understands what stay at home means and stops looking for loopholes....loopholes endanger lives.

The whole of the SW and other holiday areas cannot cope with an influx of holiday makers transporting the virus.

To be honest, if there was a megaphone on here for the CAMC I think one of us might use it!  wink
