Are CLs really members only

What is the official line? On and off over the years I have noticed the Guidance Notes issued by the various government agency have, to say the least, been inconsistent. I see the Government itself has now produced the latest note which can be read >here< and it says,

“Non-members are allowed to stay on the site if your club and the landowner agree to it.”

Do CL owners have a choice in the matter or does the Club insist on members only as a condition of giving the certificate?

That they were losing money doesn't surprise me ocsid. The facilities I remember were very swish, and outside of BHs, sites were never that busy. FC were good at growing trees, but marketing sites required a bit more to increase usage. Happy

Not all of the Forestry sites had swish facilities. There's one in Cannock Chase with none what so ever. It's not been turned over to the C&CC, though. The site at Postern Hill, now under C&CC control, only has an old fashioned toilet block with no showers. That site does have a lot of seasonal pitches which are taken up every year.

Back to CLs, we use them a lot, 46 in total last year alone, and whenever we phone a booking we are asked for our membership number on virtually all occasions. When I book on-line I always supply my membership number when inquiring about availability, and if the CL has it's own on-line booking system one has to supply ones membership number along with your other details.

I am surprised a few more CL owners have not commented on this thread. Low profile or what?

I'd say they were the clever ones PDHappyif it was a long line of-'I always ask for the Member number' they'd be shot down. If it was-'I'm happy to welcome non Members' they'd be shot down & censuredSad lose/lose I'm afraid. Yup they're too clever to postHappy

Write your comments here...don't think there are any cl owners on ct. From the topics and discussions I have read it seems to be the same few people posting across all topics.

Write your comments here...I for one have a CL and posted early on. I ask for CC number on booking, there is no way that I can proove the name and number given is the person making the booking, unless you know different.

In my experience of running a CL for 28 years we have always asked for membership numbers and can even check with the CC if we are not sure about the member as there is no photo ID they can be borrowed and misused. We only take 5 caravans and abide by the CC rules. Why would I want to take someone who isn't a member and why would I put the certificate at risk for a total stranger? I am not insured to take more than 5 and a non member would certainly not be covered by my insurance on my site.

I don't think many owners comment as it doesn't seem to make any difference what they say. Others seem to know better.

Write your comments here... There are actually five either with a CL or related to someone with a CL on this thread alone, so you are getting some CL owners responding, and telling members their experiences.
