My views of the 5 rule are well known. ie not sustainable in the expectations of modern users. Likewise not economically viable for making real alterations. its a 50/60 year rule that needs updating. My guess is that if you want to use this new site under Cl rules you probably have say 2 years until all the work is competed and the whole thing goes commercial. That is my view and yes I have passed the age of touring but was a keen advocate of Cl's for over 40 years. I just dont want to see them all disappearing.

The attraction of CLs to me is the low numbers. In fact, I feel slightly agrieved when the place fills up to five. Perhaps when I reach the age of living in the back of the vehicle that I drive around in I'll be looking for overnight stops at infinite capacity locations as well.

I like CLs because they are limited to five vans.
Some CLs like this one in the Highlands are limited by geography and weather and maybe local enterprise is encouraging this type of set up with ancillary accommodation etc. to keep it viable.

We simply love the basic, out in the sticks ones. They are usually a little bit of heaven, full of wildlife, mainly peaceful and quiet, and it’s a joy just to park up and enjoy the tranquility. These are getting rarer nowadays, but still to be found if you search hard enough. We are trying a new to us CL next week, no EHU, so we hope it will be nice and quiet, from our point of view, the less there the better.

Takethedog-Just like you i was very much an advocate of basic. Starting off with A a self converted van, fishing and wild camping in remote areas. However things got a bit more sophisticated, the vans got better equipped and they required more facilities. ie EHU, hardstanding etc .Nowadays Vans and M/H are luxury vehicles. and very few can cope with a grass field and standpipe. To meet these requirements sites need investment and not a few quid but substantial sums. If the Cl concept is to continue in the next 10 years and longer there has to be some amendment to the rules and yes size of field will be a major factor. Not all will want to expand but lets try and give an option. I very much hope that future generations will have a CL type experience like we did and can get away from the regimental, rule driven sites for their sanity. Perhaps the site mentioned here is the way forward, large, multipurpose accommodation establishments.

So long as the weather is benign and the surface well-drained, that is all that is required. For year-round clients hard standing would help but the need for individual fully serviced pitches and the like is overkill and five vans is never going to recoup that sort of outlay, particularly in a remote area which has an appeal to a minority.

There is a trend towards year round use of vans these days to justify the buying costs and more flexible working or early retirements, That leads to year round site opening and with our weather the need for the infrastructure. There are I recognise a limited number who seek "minimalism" but I suspect the majority want more, with the added cost of setting up. As an interest can someone pinpoint this site by post code or similar. Interested in seeing it
