Is this a sad sign of the times

We have just been on a wonderful 3 week trip to Scotland in our Motorhome, staying at the caravan and Motorhome club sites. We have often sat out in the sun and then nipped for a quick walk with the dogs . For over 30 years we have left chairs / tables etc outside feeling we could trust our fellow travelers. Not this time though !!! someone helped themselves to a very expensive foldaway chair and a pot dog bowl ! Well I hope whoever it was enjoys the chair and it collapses on them but at 180£ very unlikely.

now after 30 years everything will be going away when we move away from the unit . One bad apple has spoilt it for a lot of honest people 😞😞

Sad to hear of your experience.

Unfortunately the few always spoil it for the majority. Locks on doors, dogs banned from some areas due to not picking up after them, litter louts, people thinking it's important that everyone in the vicinity hears their TV/radio etc.etc.

It may not be fellow campers to blame as it’s very possible for anyone to walk into a lot of CAMC sites. Dunnet Bay, for instance, adjoins a public car park and can also be accessed on foot from the beach. Brora, similarly, can be accessed via the beach and golf course.

It's a sad lesson to learn that it’s best not to leave anything unattended.

As sites are open to non members, it may not have been a follow club member who was light fingered. Have to admit I always feel uncomfortable leaving anything outside the MH when I'm not there. Hope it didn't spoil your trip too much as it sounded great.

Not all sites accept non-members, GE, but I’m with you about leaving stuff outside.

How sad.  I've been camping / caravanning for over 50 years and when I think about what I have left in the tent / just outside, it makes me cringe.  My prized possession - an Optimus paraffin stove - which I still have - was left in our tent all the time - and even though it cost nearly £40 back then ( a small fortune)  I knew it would be safe. We all respected each other and our property - but all that has gone by the board.

Have you reported this to the wardens and police. I realise that it won't help or do much but might be part of an ongoing problem and alert the wardens to help out fellows campers there is a problem

Like AD, the only time we had anything stolen was outside of the UK and that was our steps, too.

Some thieving rascal nicked our water carrier when on a CL in Scotland. They didn’t get the screw on lid though🤣 Farmer said it happens when opportunist thieves want to pinch red diesel.

Your theft is something else marley, not nice at all. We never leave anything of value lying around, never have. Always surprises us just how much of value some folks do leave around though. Very sorry to hear of your loss.

PS. The culprits weren’t fellow campers but intruders into the site.
