It's a bit unfair

I have been a club member for some years now and I am growing more and more frustrated with the ongoing situation of members block booking different sites for the same dates and failing to turn up. I know the club does not charge a booking fee and long may this continue but to block book sites on the same date and then fail to turn up at the site has seen an increase of fully booked sites when in reality they would have spare pitches.  If only members would do the decent thing by cancelling any other bookings made for that date. This is especially evident around bank holidays and Easter. Now that the club is fully open and we all wish to get away from this awful lock down, I wish to ask all members to do the right thing and cancel any unused bookings that they do not need. I am sure that if the club were to start charging a booking (non refundable) fees this situation would end overnight. Thank you in advance.

Moderator Comment - Malc, posts like this should really be posted in the discussion area so I have moved it for you.

Cant think of anything worse than sitting for hours on end logged on to the CAMC booking site hoping for a cxlation, so that you can have a holiday, perhaps somebody could suggest that within the software they build in a facility to send you a text when a pitch becomes available as a result of a cxlation, and perhaps that is why i never use club sites and have never had difficulty finding alternative sites, mainly because i never tour during peak season July/August. laughing

Steady on Rufs this is the CAMC web site you are talking about.😂 In general we would not bother either, just look for somewhere else. Might be another CAMC / C&CC or more rarely an alternative supplier. Now we are usually only looking for 2 / 3 nights a stop it is a lot easier, even in these unusually busy times.

"Steady on Rufs this is the CAMC web site you are talking about"

did not know whether my suggestion was OTT or not, as not using booking. But my needs are probably very different from many on here, in September we are off to Devon for 1 month on the same site we stayed on last year and booked 12 months ago as we left, thought Covid might be an issue 12 months on, payed £30 deposit 12 months ago hopefully we dont loose it, but no big shakes if we do,

i see Covid infections are down to approx 36k so hopefully we will continue on a downward spirall, and hopefully no testing, paper work to prove we have had negative tests, 10 vaccines against Covid, no ham sandwiches concealed in the car, or dog food laughing the list goes on laughing, 4 hour drive , pitch up chill laughing

My frustration is with members who book weekend after weekend after weekend which effectively books out any chance members have of being able to book a whole week or more as an actual holiday, rather than just a weekend. Just search for the whole months availability on many sites, especially the very popular sites and you will see what I mean.

I feel that there should be a maximum number of bookings allowed by any one member in the hope that it might reduce this self centred approach by some!

I'm wondering if you are retired, if so good for you , because I'm not. Other than pre booked months in advance holidays my only chances to get away are weekends. As it would appear that I fall into your frustration with members , am I going to lose any sleep over it .. sorry no. As what I do is completely within the club's rules and regs . I'm really looking forward to the time that I can get away at a drop of a hat .and then moan about people blocking weekends 😁.

Its not difficult to find sites in July/August either as long as you stay away from the hot spots. Adult only sites are the best bets. Last week I  had had no problem booking into the adult only area of the Ludlow Morris Leisure site in August to meet up with friends.

I don't follow the discussion group every day so this may have been asked before. Are there any penalties for making numerous bookings throughout the year and cancelling nearly all of them a few days beforehand, so as not to incur the cost of the booking?

No, as long as they are all cancelled 72 hours before arrival is due.

With this clubs booking system there is no penalty if a booking is cancelled before 72hrs of arrival, if  a booking is not taken up (non arrival)a computer activated letter is sent , if a booking is not taken up on the third occasion all remaining bookings for the current year are cancelled by this club

There is not any financial costs to those who fail to turn up

Grandchildren duties are not necessarily confined to school holidays either!

In fact we are "released" for school holidays as our SIL is a teacher.

Otherwise we are booked for every Wednesday and Thursday, and have to arrange to swap with the other grandparents if we want to  take a decent break.

Medical appointments are not too numerous at present, but it is bound to get worse as the years go on.
