VW Emission software fix

I am have serious reservations in allowing the software  change to improve emissions  to be applied to my  TDI DSG Tiguan, I have read so many bad reports of a serious flat spot at 1500/2000 rpm , which when towing is going to cause problems pulling from junctions etc

My question is, simple . Has anyone committed to having this “upgrade” carried out , and have there been any members having had this upgrade carried out on their VAG cars find performance compromised

I had my 2015 Tiguan done the week before Christmas, it seems no different albeit I haven't towed anything with it yet.  it's a 2.0 TDI DSG R Line with the 168BHP engine.  I was given paperwork, but I certainly didn't get a goody bag!

I've decided not to get the so called fix done, based on the premise that if it ain't broke ....... And also the bad experiences of many who have the same model as me and have noticed a drop in performance post fix.  In the uk there is no legal requirement to have the fix done, unlike in the US where emissions standards are different.  I have this confirmed in writing by vw, who  advised me just to let my dealership know when I take it in for service.  The stealers will be keen to do the job as they get paid by vw to do it, so I would take with a pinch of salt anything they tell you.

By the way, group action is now being started in the uk, as you probably know by now.  I've decided to join this as I am still pretty peed off with vw for lying about my car's emissions.  Id really rather kill as few people as possible, although I now know that driving a diesel is in itself not good news and will look to alternatives when I look for my next tug.  Pair of horses maybe?

Reading Honest John's latest responses this morning and he advises not to have the fix, especially with a Tiguan or 1.2 tdi Polo. The remap appears to raise the RPM at which peak torque is generated by about 300rpm

Have not noticed the peak torque/rpm changing after the fix, but there again I do not keep looking at the rev counter.  I let the DSG take the strain!  Don't people think of the environment here?

I don't think the emissions are altered in anyway, simply the misreporting of them as testing time.

Just had my 2.0TDi Skoda 'fixed' this morning, had a chat with the service manager about some of the comments on forums. he told me, no problems reported back to him on cars that have had the fix with the dealership.

Away in the morning with the caravan for a few days will get it up to 60mph on the A1M (weather permitting) and make judgement then. He did say if any problems, then I have to contact him.

Got a nice goody bag for the inconvenience, Skoda umbrella, mug, pen and a shopping trolley token!! plus they give the car a wash and topped up the screen wash.

After collecting the car (2.0TDi 140ps manual) I gave it run solo, did not notice any difference at all, acceleration was good in all gears, it just seemed the same. Hitched the caravan on the next morning and away to Clumber Park joined the A1M, accelerated up to 60mph, again no problems everything is just the same, no flat spots, smooth, same mpg on trip computer and at 60mph in 6th gear the rev needle sits between 1,500 and 2,000rpm as always.

It appears Another side effect of the software mod causes the EGR to run hotter putting more strain on the EGR coolant system leading to component failures. Doesn't show up for a while after the 'fix' but becoming increasingly common as time goes on.

We had our 2013 Passat 140 tdi estate software done and we found that the mpg improved and also the torque through the gears .To date l think we are the only positive feed back on The HonestJohn web site !
