Engine re-mapping

You, however, seem not to have told your insurer which is an extremely reckless thing to do. Believe me, if an insurance company was looking for a get out clause to avoid paying, they would discover the remapping with no trouble at all.

For small claims no inspection would be undertaken. But believe me, faced with a substantial claim an insurance company seeking ways to decline paying out on their own client's fault claim or even the other driver's 'no-fault' losses the insurance companies will have the vehicle inspectors crawling all over the vehicle to find any undeclared material fact to help them. In a 'minor' mechanical yet high value case the no-fault driver's legal people will obtain a vehicle inspection report as every scrap of information is usually presented to the Court to strengthen the claim of the no-fault injured party. If there was personal injury the compensation could easily be in six figures. Yes, very reckless.

Incidently...................>

Ford Kuga 2,0 tdci, front wheel drive.163bhp

Ford Kuga 2.0 tdci AWD 177bhp...........

Same engine, same displacement,

You can get the 163bhp mapped to 190bhp and the 177 to 210.

Just sayin

No. I was responding to the rather long post of lornalou 1.......

-------------------------------

How would an insurance company know you have had it remapped or do the insurance companies do a test on every car that's involved in every accident........

I wanted my vehicle remapped so I had it done and paid for it. if it damages my motor I have only myself to blame. there are many cynics out there that will question everything people do. everybody has a choice in life and should be left to there own devises and not be criticised for there choice. the OP asked a question and I answered it and its up to him if he takes/does what I have done.

I paid the money and I take the chance.

--------------------------------------

It was posted in another reply to the effect that '..how can I know if it has been mapped or not, I wouldn't know'.

Following an accident you should try telling that to your insurance company, or the Court. Ignorance is at best a very weak defence.

I visit CT less than once a fortnight and rarely contribute, only when I can be helpful as a result of some authority and first hand experience. No-one needs to take any notice (or offence).

For what its worth, most maps that are added to your vehicle are switchable, and / or removeable.

So if you were that way inclined, no one would know it has been or is remapped.

I can just imagine a person with accident damage with the bonnet up (assuming it would lift up) removing the tuning box, also assuming his/her hands were in working order undecided

Quite right. Having just obtained several insurance quotes for my new vehicle, every one of them asked if the vehicle had been modified in any way since leaving the factory. Not a leg to stand on if you ignore this in my opinion.

a remap is different from a plug in box.

In reply to removable after and at an accident with tuning box,  was talking of both ways of adding power

Even with a remap, can you download to the ECU the original map following an incapacitated car and maybe yourself.

It was pretty much backing up a point I made, One.

Incidentally, thanks for the heads up on the £10 p/a on your insurance. For such a small sum it’s not worth the risk of not telling them.

OK. my car is out of warranty so doesn't matter with dealers as I would have to pay for any repairs whatever they may be.

How would an insurance company know you have had it remapped or do the insurance companies do a test on every car that's involved in every accident. Even a dealer wouldn't know its been done unless they put it on there machine and run a test. a plug in diagnostic reader wouldn't show up a remap as they are used to find/remove fault codes.

Hi LL, no one is questioning or criticizing your decision to remap your car.

TW and I just wanted some questions answering re MOT, insurance and warranty claims. These have now been answered to some extent.smile
