You, however, seem not to have told your insurer which is an extremely reckless thing to do. Believe me, if an insurance company was looking for a get out clause to avoid paying, they would discover the remapping with no trouble at all.
For small claims no inspection would be undertaken. But believe me, faced with a substantial claim an insurance company seeking ways to decline paying out on their own client's fault claim or even the other driver's 'no-fault' losses the insurance companies will have the vehicle inspectors crawling all over the vehicle to find any undeclared material fact to help them. In a 'minor' mechanical yet high value case the no-fault driver's legal people will obtain a vehicle inspection report as every scrap of information is usually presented to the Court to strengthen the claim of the no-fault injured party. If there was personal injury the compensation could easily be in six figures. Yes, very reckless.

No. I was responding to the rather long post of lornalou 1.......
-------------------------------
How would an insurance company know you have had it remapped or do the insurance companies do a test on every car that's involved in every accident........
I wanted my vehicle remapped so I had it done and paid for it. if it damages my motor I have only myself to blame. there are many cynics out there that will question everything people do. everybody has a choice in life and should be left to there own devises and not be criticised for there choice. the OP asked a question and I answered it and its up to him if he takes/does what I have done.
I paid the money and I take the chance.

It was posted in another reply to the effect that '..how can I know if it has been mapped or not, I wouldn't know'.
Following an accident you should try telling that to your insurance company, or the Court. Ignorance is at best a very weak defence.
I visit CT less than once a fortnight and rarely contribute, only when I can be helpful as a result of some authority and first hand experience. No-one needs to take any notice (or offence).

Posted on 09/03/2018 19:27 by G CherokeeFor what its worth, most maps that are added to your vehicle are switchable, and / or removeable.
So if you were that way inclined, no one would know it has been or is remapped.

Posted on 09/03/2018 20:25 by lornalou1a remap is different from a plug in box.

Posted on 09/03/2018 11:32 by lornalou1OK. my car is out of warranty so doesn't matter with dealers as I would have to pay for any repairs whatever they may be.
How would an insurance company know you have had it remapped or do the insurance companies do a test on every car that's involved in every accident. Even a dealer wouldn't know its been done unless they put it on there machine and run a test. a plug in diagnostic reader wouldn't show up a remap as they are used to find/remove fault codes.
