Diesel & petrol alternatives? Your thoughts please

Good Afternoon,

Hopefully you have now received your September Club Magazine and read the Ask Your Club article (see attached photo) regarding the future of caravanning post 2040.

Have you already changed your vehicle from diesel to petrol?

Is anyone already towing with a hybrid? Maybe a Tesla Model X?

Has the news affected your plans for your next towcar?

It will also be interesting to see how motorhomes evolve into hybrids and/or electric models, which alternative to diesel would you prefer to buy; Hybrid or electric?

Are you concerned about so few alternatives to diesel at the moment? Would you choose petrol instead if they were more widely available? There is now a VW T6 camper with a petrol engine available.

Has this news made you think about switching to a car and caravan? Equally would caravanners consider trading in their car and caravan to purchase a hybrid or electric motorhome?

From the questions above, we would love to have your feedback.

One thing is for sure, there will be some interesting times ahead.

ETs Post speaks volumes as to what to expect even more so in the future , as is predicted by the majority of scientists concerned about climate change

The infrastructure of the UK is not in many places going to be able to cope ,

I am a retired engineer but have to admit to losing the will to live with the long and complex posts about this technology.  I fear most folk who in recent years have due to ever greater reliance on computer systems become detached to what's under the bonnet of an ICE powered vehicle will have even greater trouble buying EV and not being sold a "pup" that will restrict their movements.  This is a caravanning forum and it has been  clearly demonstrated ( to me at least )that we are a very long way off being able to replace an  ICE towcar with a 300+ mile range.

Pottering about and shopping ok, a short  trip to a site where one is sure of recharge facilities  maybe but anything like a towing journey  no.

I too am a retired engineer & I find these complex posts about this technology both fascinating & very helpful. It’s the future & I intend to immerse myself in it. My engineering background will help my understanding👍🏻

Most of us buy items powered by electricity with no formal knowledge of what's keeping the cooker, washing machine, computer etc going. In fact computerisation runs much of our lives, keeps our planes up in the air, produces our heating and our power, looks after us in hospitals. A lack of knowledge doesn't mean rejection of the latest developments in computerised engineering.

Well, shall we say you're not interested David? Then move on to those of us who are and also remember towing capabilities are now coming on stream to those who want to go down this route. It's also a combined forum, caravan and motorhome and just before Chocolate Trees posted the iD Buzz link I was going to ask if there was anything new at the NEC show this year involving electric vehicles? I wonder if anyone visiting could let us know. smile
