2030 - No new ICE cars to be sold

What is the Club's position on this announcement?

It sounds the death knell for towing anything like a decent size caravan unless reasonably priced electric cars capable of towing over 200 miles without recharge suddenly appear, and the recharging infrastructure expands rapidly. Given the incompetence of most politicians that is unlikely to happen.

Or do we think this is just another of Bojo's announcements that will quietly be forgotten when it becomes clear that there is no chance of this happening by 2030?

Perhaps the Club could enlighten us on whether it is engaging with the Government, as it is abundantly clear that no thought has been given to this issue by the Politicos.

Interesting that NG aresaying less power is being used when the massive power outage last year that blacked out large areas on North London including the railway OHL was down to more power than the supply could cope with

Also the railway OHL needs millions more spent on upgrading the ECML between Newcastle and Edinborough to have enough power to enable trains to use electric  power where some now have to be ICE powered to stop a power outage

JVB, you really need to check facts.

When people can't get power it's ususally due to a failure somewhere isn't it?

That is correct as per the North London outage,  thousands could not get power as the system could not cope,

And the upgrade ? north of Newcastle is to help stop it happening up there

I haven't got a "take" on it, the facts are out there if you look them up. smile

Good get outundecided

It matters not,  the Area affected was because the system was not able to cope with the power requiredsurprised

and you are the last  to plug in and at the end of the queue for your bucket of electric .... in the morning your car battery is still flat. No idea about your street, but at the week end when most people are at home, there are hundreds of cars around & about locally to me - there are 5 cars at our house alone. If they all needed just an hour on charge, it'll take a very long time to charge them all .... assuming there is the electrical capacity.

Posted on 23/11/2020 17:53

Plus you will all have to get out of bed at stupid o clock to move vehicles around to get to the charging point

And the facts are to many people wanting power when not enough was available caused the system to fail

We are with Octopus Energy have a PodPoint EV smart charger, off peak 00.30 - 04.30am 5 pence @kW.

Energy companies peak time is between 16.00 -19.00pm, several companies including Octopus are now trialling with Nissan to use the customers EV as a battery bank feeding power back into the grid to help smooth peak time, Octopus pay their customers £30 per month to connect to the grid 12 times a month.

Actually, the main cause was two providers dropping off grid at the same time. A Danish owned Wind Farm off Hornsea, and a German owned Gas Fired Power Station somewhere else. Never mind, after 1st January, it will all be ok, as we will have taken back control.........🙄

Now excuse me, we have a herd of Flying Pigs passing over, and I want to net a few.......
