Motorhomes - servicing whilst touring

We tour a lot more than we did when we had a caravan.  We would like to be able to empty and fill our tanks without the need to stay at a club site.  Most club sites have a suitable service point for grey and black waste  and drinking water points.  Why do they not let members on tour use these facilities ?

Perhaps with the rebranding the Club may start to look at things more from a motorhoming perspective which would mean having a look at how Club sites are designed with a view of ease of use that might include passing units be able to fill and empty tanks. I think this would mean having motorhome service points near to entrances and purpose built rather than some of the half hearted arrangements we have currently. A few sites do have these points near the entrance but not enough to start putting such an option in place, at least yet. Its not something I would probably use but this sort of facility is quite common on sites abroad.

I personally see no reason why the club would wish to make such a provision other than to generate income. Why provide for somebody who does not use the site other than to charge and make an income.

Politically there are no doubt areas where it might be more popular but their might be wild camping in such areas that the club might not wish to be seen to promote.

I am not sure that the uptake and income on many sites would justify any outlay.

Every one seems to think I'm suggesting these facilities are provided free of charge.  Please reread my post, I didn't say that at all.  A lot of people suggest stay over for one night, but this isn't always possible due to full sites.  All I am suggesting is that those sites with the facilities make them available to Motor Homers who are touring.  Incidentally there are places that have no facilities (e.g. Pubs) that are used by Motorhomes so don't assume that we wild camp all the time.  We are all different in what we are after and I have the freedom to choose, just as you do.  I pay my subs and have done since we got our first van back in 1972, I think it is very reasonable to ask for access to a facility that exists already, and not to be forced into staying overnight to get it.

Being a member for such a long time  , I'm sure you must be aware that the membership fee only covers your yearly subscription fee .

Certainly the membership fee doesn't cover the services you mentioned & think should be available at a CMC site & to my knowledge as never been available in your membership period , on the other hand as pointed out the C&CC do make available such services at a nominal fee .

Do you seriously think the CMC would allow members or non members to use site facilities in such a casual way without some form of enforcement & charges........# real world 😇

Whether members book ahead or not is entirely their choice David.

A  lot of people suggested that I should book into a site for one night and use the facilities.  I thought I would investigate this option.  The club has over 200 sites of which 180 have MHSPs.   This Saturday there are 11 sites with MHSP with pitch availability.

However, there is a distinct geographic bias :

Cumbria (1) /  Devon and Cornwall (1) /  Scotland (2)  /  South East England (1) /  Southern England (6).

So this strategy doesn't  seem to work even this early in the year.  I doubt it will work during the summer.  Looks like CC&C will get my money again.

This Saturday there are many sites not yet open until 17th March I suspect and hence the scarcity and particularly as the weather is improving after winter. However if you wish to call into a club site and fill up the C&CC does seem a better option.

Considering most sites don't open for another week or so, I don't think 11 is a bad total.

Obviously, if the sites aren't open nobody could use the MHSPs anyway so, whether or not the club were to allow this facility for a fee, makes no difference at all when sites are closed.

Have you put your case to C&MC yet, r4? I think we'd all be interested to hear the response.

Another point at this time of year that even sites that are open all year will not be releasing grass pitches, the site  we are on at the moment has well over 100 pitches closed until later

The Club in its wisdom has put many of its Motorhome waste emptying points in the wrong place, some of them in the very centre of sites.

We had pitch 20 at Wyatts Covert and were treated to resident motorhomers slopping out right outside our front window. A stream of visiting motorhomes doing the same would be intolerable.

Taken from OP’s original question   “We would like to be able to empty and fill our tanks without the need to stay at a club site.  Why do they not let members on tour use these facilities ? “

It has been said in an earlier post that the club will not be changing policy regarding this so using facilities before you leave your overnight stay or using C & CC paying facilities is the choice you have to make.

The way you wish to tour is your choice. The way the club manages its sites is the club’s choice.

An email to HO would probalby be the way forward for you to receive the correct answer to your question.

I agree with R4Dent. He is not asking for anything for free and ought to get some benefit from the membership fees (and any additional charge the club might make, like the £7 for the C&CC). To me this is the major advantage of C&CC membership and I really don't see why so many in the Motorhome & Caravan Club are making out that r4Dent's request is anything other than a very reasonable suggestion which would benefit both the Club and members who may wish to use facilities in a slightly more flexible way than others have become used to.
