Cash only in on site shops

Can I ask the question about cash only being accepted in onsite shops?

I am sure this has been discussed, but I think it is weird in this day and age that reception staff/wardens only accept cash and do not take cards to pay for any extras you might require.

I realise that a machine obviously comes with a cost, but my reason for asking is that having just visited a C&M site, it was very hot and a young mother and her three young children came into the reception/shop area to purchase an ice cream for her children. When she asked if they take cards, she was told, no we only take cash, then the young mother said to her children they could not have an ice cream because she only had a card and no cashon her at all. The little ones were very upset and they all left having purchased nothing, so a lost sale.

I understand that the staff/wardens run the sale of essentials etc separate from the club, but in this day and age and with more and more young families taking up Caravaning or motorhoming they do not carry cash, we are a cashless society now and I think reception staff/ wardens need to address this issue.

I know before anyone says it that you should perhaps take some cash with you, but the younger generation are a cashless and online generation.

What do you think, am I being ridiculous?

I don;t use much gas. However there is no merit in my buying local rather than on a CC site. Like many who use EHU there is little to burn gas on!

If there are those who choose to get gas near home then it won't have too much effect if the warden wants cash will it?

Alan

Am I correcting in saying that you have often said that you don't use much gas and you only use 3.9kgs cylinders? I always buy locally to where I live particularly if I want a Calor Lite. The Calor Lite discussion of here seems to point to many others doing what I do rather than exchanging on site. No doubt the wardens will look forward to your continued custom?

The only times that I can remember buying gas off site was once at my dealership and once near home at Chester CC site on the way from a lunch with ex-colleagues laughing

We are the same. The only time we have bought gas elsewhere, is when we originally rented the cylinders and once when it was going in for service, just after it ran out. Otherwise the convenience far outways the fact I have to pay cash, or the extra few pounds.

I have yet to find anywhere (go outdoors maybe after you have paid to join their "club) that sell at a lower price than calors retail price

I do know that Walls ice cream have two retail price lists the standard and "enhanced" for use by retailers depending on localitysurprised

Oddly the caravan dealer was not that much more than the Go Outdoors price. Perhaps they made a mistake though, as they are not cheaper for anything else.😀

I guess the answer is just carry a little cash around with you to buy ice cream/milk or bread from the site shop, doesn't seem too big an ask
