Cash only in on site shops

Can I ask the question about cash only being accepted in onsite shops?

I am sure this has been discussed, but I think it is weird in this day and age that reception staff/wardens only accept cash and do not take cards to pay for any extras you might require.

I realise that a machine obviously comes with a cost, but my reason for asking is that having just visited a C&M site, it was very hot and a young mother and her three young children came into the reception/shop area to purchase an ice cream for her children. When she asked if they take cards, she was told, no we only take cash, then the young mother said to her children they could not have an ice cream because she only had a card and no cashon her at all. The little ones were very upset and they all left having purchased nothing, so a lost sale.

I understand that the staff/wardens run the sale of essentials etc separate from the club, but in this day and age and with more and more young families taking up Caravaning or motorhoming they do not carry cash, we are a cashless society now and I think reception staff/ wardens need to address this issue.

I know before anyone says it that you should perhaps take some cash with you, but the younger generation are a cashless and online generation.

What do you think, am I being ridiculous?

Thanks for your response Rowena. I echo EasyT comments. I'm quite happy to carry cash and am grateful to the wardens who do offer this service.

Some of us could find the shops very useful if we arrive on site to discover we have less milk/bread/toilet chemical than we thought. It may also help those who don’t want to take their vehicles off site simply to buy their eggs and bacon/sunscreen/umbrellas.

It  does seem peculiar to me that some members believe it makes more sense to drive  to an ATM and use the technology of a  debit card to withdraw cash  rather than using that same technology  to pay at the point of sale. undecided

Always carry some cash, next time VISA crashes you will still be able to refuel......and buy ice-cream from wardens.

I always keep a gold sovereign in the heel of my brogues.

I have only used a cash machine once in my life. I have no need to use one, The reason that I used that particular one was that I was able to specify the denominations that I want.

It does seem peculiar to me that some members don't carry a modicum of cash even if in their caravan/motorhome or car

When shopping for groceries to be used in the LV when away and paying by debit card "cash back" is usually part of our transaction or useing the (as is available at most larger stores) the free to use cashpoint,so no need for a "special" trip to get cashwink

Do you actually go into the bank to get cash, how very old fashioned. laughing

For me very convenient as well as a way to get the five pound notes that the machines do not generally provide.
