New website

The new discussion website is absolute rubbish. It's so user unfriendly, god knows how to navigate it. I certainly will not try looking at it again. If the idea was to prevent members easy access to express their views you have in my opinion certainly succeeded. Bring back the old easy accessible site!!!

From the little I have seen so far the site is simple and easy to use particularly when compared with other sites I like.  Regarding the "Follow this Discussion" update emails even daily is not sufficient, IMO it should be done in real time or they are pointless.

Agree DD daily is neither use nor ornament. Not that I used them a lot as you tended to get inundated. A list of say the last 10 posts you had contributed to, in all this white space on the right hand side, would suit me better. It would need to provide a live link to the threads though, not just be a list.

I have had no problem working the system although prefer the old colours. Still cannot get my Samsung tablet to function properly on it though as the Compose box simply is not there..

I notice that on the tread list the word "new"and a number, which used to mean The number of new postings since I last looked at the thread. However it certainly doesn't relate to that, as I've not read many of the threads and most of them are not indicating that I've not read them. I can't remember all the postings I Iooked at but the old system allowed me to revert to the last item that I'd read whereas I can't do this now. Any suggestions how I can avoid searching through each posting every time without having to "follow" each item?

The CT Forum came up as one of the results for a search I performed on an external engine. The page wasn’t found but I was pleasantly surprised to find a new forum, freshly opened for Christmas!

First impressions are that it’s largely just a makeover (and over a year late) but maybe the real improvements are not obvious to a passing glance and I was never much good a Pelmanism anyway.

I’m disappointed to find that it is so difficult to read and I do not understand why text cannot be black on white, or a contrasting combination of colours where a distinction is required. I find the same with the Club Magazine, though, perhaps someone doesn’t want me?

There are some things that don’t seem to work too well (Quotes and size of Avtars) but I assume they’ll be put right, given a little more time. What bothers me is that the behavior seems to be inconsistent. Shame they were not discovered before release. We waited patiently yet it seems to have been rushed in the end.

I’m pleased to see that the star system has been dropped, I always felt that it was the driving force for unnecessary posts, diluting any constructive material. It is a shame that “likes” are still reported on the ‘activity list’, to clutter it up, and why was the useful list of ‘recent posts’ dropped? I do wonder what the priorities were for this face-lift. Let’s hope the result will be more stable than the previous one.

Most important is the need for it to attract more users and interesting content. Some of the ‘old names’ are still evident, but not as many as I recall. It’ll be interesting to see if the activity increases, or not, because we’re repeatedly being told how CT “just keeps growing”.

When the prospect of a new forum was first muted, a lot of helpful suggestions were provided. Sadly, it seems that many of these were ignored (or couldn’t be achieved). If the Search worked better, it might be possible to find them.

I believe the future of CT will depend on an easy to use facility providing a satisfying experience that encourages users to return. It will struggle without rewarding content or a critical mass of active users. Function should be more important than form.

I may stumble back to see if anything’s improved in the future. At the moment it still seems to be “much the same, only different”.

Nice to see you, Rogher.

You can still see your own recent activity via your avatar or profile.

The quotes are working Rogher but we've been informed that you can't edit someone's quote to avoid defamatory comments eg taking a quote out of context. It's just one quote at a time too, sparing us the lengthy page consuming posts.

"I may stumble back to see"

"The quotes are working Rogher"

It's easy enough to copy and paste whatever you want!!!!

Just tried to  view an old discussion in the overseas section - all that's left is the original post and none of the replies or comments. Other dicussions are the same. The original posts are standing there like tombstones in an empty grave yard!

This may well have been  mentioned, however in the absence of any definitive list I will mention it again. None of the filters, that I have tried on search and book work. These include, peaceful, wifi and tent campers welcome.

  1. Selecting peaceful still included Gatwick, which seems a bit strange.🛫🛬
  2. Selecting wifi included Warwick race course, which does not have any ❌
  3. Selecting tent campers welcome included loads of sites that do not permit tents. ☹️️

I think it would probably be best if the filters were removed until they are functioning properly.
