Customer Focus

I have used quite a few club sites this year and have received some warm welcomes, however the norm seems to be that there is very little custom focus. That is wardens, not all of them, don’t seem to see members as customers. This week was the final straw as far as attitude is concerned. We arrived at the site half an hour before check in time, as we thought it would take us longer to get there but wanted to be on site a.s.a.p and off into town so no problem sitting in the van for half an hour. Well the warden was straight out saying “your too early you need to go park up along the road in the pay and display until 12” we told him we were happy sitting in the van but he was not allowing this, even though we were not blocking entry for others. Anyway we did as we were told, along with another van five minutes later who joined us in the car park. We returned for 12 to find that we were at the back of a que of about six and again instructions from the warden, this time to remain in the van until he told us we can go to the office.

I really think the club wardens need to think about who is paying their salaries and the club needs to think about bringing its customer focus trading up to date.

So, the question is ,should the CC get rid of the rules and have one big free for all !!!!!surprised

Because without rules where would we be?............Germanywink

Apart from France  the only country we find this lunchtime closing is Germany and Lutz recently explained that its a throwback to an old law no longer on statute books but lingering on at some sites because they have always done it that way. I now have an excellent guide Europa Camping+ Caravanning that whilst it covers much of Europe it principally concentrates on Germany (its in German) and among other useful information it details reception opening hours. We find these closures an occasional irritant but if we managed to arrive before lunch it wouldnt be an issue.

The scenario described by the OP  being sent away  to return 30 mins later is just preposterous and certainly wouldn't happen at any continental site I have used

Did we ever find out what site this "sending away" wasundecided

I'd love to know where all these lay-bys, suitable for 40 odd feet of car & caravan are to be found. I can't even think of any locally, let alone in a strange area. When a site is half empty, it's just an officious warden that turns members away till the stroke of 12

And yet how often recently have we read praise lavished on C&CC site managers for sticking rigidly to the 1pm arrival time?

Personally I'd like to see a more flexible arrival/departure system on club sites with no access problems, but we have what we have. The OP here was, for whatever reason, in the wrong and I can't see any justification for complaints against the wardens.

I have to smile when I read accounts of unnamed non club sites having a "turn up when you feel like it" policy because I've yet to come across any that do (some, but not many CLs excepted). That's UK Sites I'm talking about - this is the UK section, isn't it? wink

I have only used one CL in the last 10 years. There are definitely some that I would use. However when I used that CL I asked about arrival times and it was a strict 12pm.

That was sensible and understandable. The entrance road is tree lined and two outfits would not pass.  Also the owner is out at work and so has no idea whether outfits have left earlier than 12pm or not.

At Morros Leisure last week we were told " turn up when you are ready"> No problem with access so why not? Another reason why we find commercials a better option than CC. particularly when sites are mainly empty.

You spoke with them and they said anytime. It is possible to agree a time on club sites sometimes. The important thing is to ask as with any site

I don't understand, we are made aware of the earliest arrival time so if you tip up early surely you can expect a possible issue or challenge awaits you. And more than possibly the staff too!! Why gripe?

The other thing is that the C&MC is a network of many sites and not just one isolated site. We know that many sites have site specific issues which impact on arrival times etc., these are well documented elsewhere on this forum, and efforts to manage these site specific issues and challenges are thwarted by those who just 'make it up' for themselves. These instances can also impact on all the rest of us who just manage to get it right and that I guess can just make matters worse for those trying to manage things.

I suppose I'm just lucky I have an HGV detail based sat nav regarding large layby information on all the UK road network  it covers most of Europe too.

It might mean a little effort for those who aren't as blessed  what with the internet , Google earth , Google maps it's all there if you can be bothered .👍
