A simple question. As the caravan club no longer offer caravan insurance as such what suggestions for a new insurer that does.

Which is what we thought as that is what it says in the policy booklet, but the documents that come with the policy state different and indicate that all the security devices should be used or an alarm.

This is copied direct from the documentation that came with the cover;

Are there any restrictions on cover?
! Commercial use of the caravan is not permitted
! Whenever a caravan is left unhitched it must be immobilised or protected from theft by use of a hitchlock, wheel clamp, heavy duty chain or alarm system.
! Where a part is obsolete and unobtainable, the most we may pay is the last known list price and appropriate fitting charge.

As said they need to go back and rewrite their documentation.

Read it proper and look how it is puncuated. And nowhere does it state that you have to use them all. As I stated I phoned up and was told that you only need to use one unless you have had the discounts for using the other security devices.

If the club insurance is so naff AD why didn’t you can it straight away and take your new insurance out at the first opportunity?

Posted on 22/11/2019 17:40

I can tell you why I didn't if it is of any interest?

I had been using insurance via the club for very many years. I renewed on 3rd December 2018. I was aware that the club was now offering cover rather than normal insurance. When I got my renewal quote I was aware of very little change in the general cover offered. I did not think further because I had other concerns at the time with family, health concerns, and having a lot of other things that were pressing. After Christmas I did not think further as there was other things and it was not something that I thought of further. For some reason during October this year I reviewed the cover and any considerations. I decided then that it was not for me. The caravan would not be used again until after cover had run out - we are away mid December; and so preffered to go elsewhere then.

unless you have had the discounts for using the other security devices.

Just to be clear. In other words, if one has stipulated more than one device (in my case 2), they must both be used?

Well I have read it "proper" as did my OH who unlike me didn't leave school at 15 and has a first class grasp of the English language our judgment is the same as that of Surfer. Quite sure the CAMC does not mean  what it said but its badly punctuated and what it does say is all those devices OR alarm system.

I have just looked at my booklet and it clearly states one of the following. On my policy it only states that I need to have my alarm activated when the caravan is not hitched to the car. Can I ask if you have cmc cover so that you can check your policy.

Also in my booklet there is a comma between each item which would suggest either or.

Hi All

Just a Heads up with insurance

I got quotes for insurance on new Volvo b being an wrinkley I got quote from Saga on line with quotes from other companies as well

I phoned Saga to ask few questions about insurance during this conversation Sage rep said it would be insured with LV insurance who had their own authorised repairers which i queried saying as new car i would use a Volvo repairer

I was told no probs i could use who i wanted to it just that they did have their authorised repairers

Having sorted out that in the event of a claim i could use Volvo repairers i took out the insurance

Unfortunately ten days after taking delivery of car i took it out on a sunday morning (day after heavy rain) to find i had fuel pouring out I drove to the Volvo dealer complained bitterly that car should get fuel leaks after only ten days They like me thought a fuel pipe had come off They loaned me a car & said they would be working on it first thing in morning

About 11am i had call from garage saying that problem was rodent attack it had chewed thru fuel pipe & some wires

so trip to garage was needed to apologise profusely to sales staff

Insurance company contacted took them two weeks to send their engineer out who agreed the repairs I then asked about hire car while mine being repaired I was told no I could not have one as I had not used their repairers which was not mentioned when I queried using Volvo repairers before taking out insurance

So if you taking out insurance make sure you have all the details

I for one will not use Saga or LV again lesson learnt

Sorry for long post but wanted to give all details/facts
