A simple question. As the caravan club no longer offer caravan insurance as such what suggestions for a new insurer that does.

The more security devices you have fitted when on a site the longer it will take to get your van to "safety" when you see Noah getting the animals on boardsurprised

It is a requirement of cover that whenever the caravan is left unhitched from a towing vehicle it is immobilised or protected against theft or unlawful removal by the use of one of the following: a hitchlock, wheel clamp, heavy duty chain or immobiliser or an alarm system

The above is the t&c’s for the club cover.  When I took out the policy on my new van, I ticked the boxes of all the security devices I use.

My reading of the policy is that when unhitched I only need to use one of the devices I nominated

Which is what we thought as that is what it says in the policy booklet, but the documents that come with the policy state different and indicate that all the security devices should be used or an alarm.

This is copied direct from the documentation that came with the cover;

Are there any restrictions on cover?
! Commercial use of the caravan is not permitted
! Whenever a caravan is left unhitched it must be immobilised or protected from theft by use of a hitchlock, wheel clamp, heavy duty chain or alarm system.
! Where a part is obsolete and unobtainable, the most we may pay is the last known list price and appropriate fitting charge.

As said they need to go back and rewrite their documentation.

I think you will find that all calls are recorded. Just keep date and time . Take it you think that the caravan cover people are liars. Plus as you say it is in writing on page 6. What would a court of law make of that

What would a court of law make of that

Who wants to take CMC to court? I thought that CMC cover allowed 3 hours left unattended without security? Or is that just on site? Somebody posted that it was 8 hours - I dunno. Surely it says on the cover documents.

I would prefer the 2018 versions over the 2019

[Insurance] Security Condition (2018)

Failure to comply with this Security Condition means You will not be covered for claims following the theft or attempted theft of the Caravan. It is a requirement of cover that whenever the Caravan is left unhitched from a towing vehicle for a period exceeding 8-hours it is immobilised or protected against theft or unlawful removal by the use of one of the following: a hitchlock, wheel clamp, heavy duty chain or immobiliser or an alarm system.

[Insurance] We do not cover (2018)

Theft or attempted theft of the Caravan if left unhitched from a towing vehicle for a period exceeding 8 hours, if it is not immobilised or protected against theft or unlawful removal by the use of one of the following: hitchlock, wheelclamp, heavy duty chain or immobiliser or an alarm system.

[Cover[ Security condition (2019)

It is a requirement of cover that whenever the caravan is left unhitched from a towing vehicle it is immobilised or protected against theft or unlawful removal by the use of one of the following: a hitch-lock, wheel-clamp, heavy duty chain or immobiliser or an alarm system. (This does not apply when your caravan is in for a service as long as it is stored in a secure compound.).

[Cover] We do not cover(2019)

Theft or attempted theft of the caravan while unhitched from a towing vehicle, if it is not immobilised or protected against theft or unlawful removal by the use of one of the following: hitch-lock, wheel-clamp, heavy duty chain or immobiliser or an alarm system.

I wonder if this substantial change was drawn to the attention of those renewing their Cover / Insurance.

its a good point, but if not, you can always cancel once you have received and read your cover document, that is if you read it, but would suggest if you never read the old one your are not likely to read the new one undecided wouldnt particularly chance leaving my caravan in a service area for e.g. for 8 hours without putting a lock on it, so the non 8 hour change is probably a change for the better

+1

I though the old 8 hours was far too lax anyway. How can anyone think it's a good idea to leave a caravan unprotected for 8 hours is beyond me.

Well I still have  8 days left (until my insurance kicks in)  where I could leave my caravan  without immobilizing it for 8 hours as per the 2018 Super Caravan Cover documentwink

If you had a 10 year van and new for old some might be tempted to do that I suspect undecided
