A simple question. As the caravan club no longer offer caravan insurance as such what suggestions for a new insurer that does.

I am NOT insulting another poster which is against the rules however I am being "targetted" by another of the gang who seem to dominate CT.

The CMC no longer pay the 12% insurance tax as they no longer offer insurance.  This seems to be the ONLY reason why the quotes are now cheaper as previously they were not very competitive.  Therefore in my opinion they are dodging the tax due to their work around.  Many large companies employ these sort of tactics to dodge taxes and it seems that the CMC is now one of them.

Not really as it is the customer that paid that tax although it does keep his cost down and make CMC cover more attractive. For me it is simply away for CMC to increase profits as they would not be in a position I suspect to offer proper regulated insurance. They would be no cheaper for me than a number of other providers so maybe they are abe to make an additional 12% profit as the customer looks at prices at a similar level where they are paying the 12% and the CMC insurance has had a good rep over the years although they were not really the insurer. No idea.

Well you may say they are dodging but apparently HMRC don't agree with you. I'll go with them.

This appears untrue as there are posters that say the Club's cover/insurance is still more expensive than others has has been since the club offered cover.

And even if it is more competitive really what is your problem with that?

What is so wrong with an organisation that offers a 'cheaper' product to its members within the law? Do you complain to Aldi and others like it that they are offering 'cheaper' food than other supermarkets? I certainly don't, if they offer the same quality food and products (and they do) I buy it.

Ive always got a quote from CC when caravan insurance is due for renewal and their quote has never been competitive.

In the 10 years ive had a caravan Ive always got a number of quotes and no one has ever beaten the CCC for price and cover. Cant see any point in getting a quote from CC in future.

I suspect that there are many anomalies with quotes. Some say that C&CC has been cheaper than CMC whilst I found them 30% dearer than CMC.

For me the CMC offering was competitive - maybe different evaluations of postcodes?

Insurance is like a lottery. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose in terms of quotes. The main thing is to make sure that the cover offered ticks all that you need, including any special requirements and circumstances, and then get the best price you can. The key issue is what happens if you ever have to make a claim. That’s where you really find out how good the product is, and how supportive your chosen provider is willing to be.

I understand fully AD, it’s what I meant be individual requirements. They were unable to give us a vital part of the cover we required for our MH, so we looked elsewhere and found what we needed.

It is bad news for you, as not touring in UK, it’s another reason to reconsider your Membership fee. We still more than Recoup our costs in other ways.

You are factually incorrect in your assertion that the club are "tax dodgers".

Insurance Premium Tax is paid by the customer/client and the Insurer/Club is merely an unpaid Tax Collector. They are charged with passing on the tax collected to HMRC. They do not contribute any tax to this fund so cannot "dodge" any payment. If a client feels aggrieved at not paying the tax then they could always send a cheque to the Taxman.

By the way, the CAMC will pay Insurance Premium Tax on the insurances they take out to cover such things as their own Liability cover, The Damage cover to their property etc.

One further point is that I'm no big advocate of the club. I insure my caravan elsewhere but I do prefer fact to fiction in this instance.
