Would It Work ? – Open for sensible debate.

With so many people complaining about the frenzied booking when the system opens in early December I thought I would try to suggest a solution for those not able to book so early due to work or other restrictions. Whilst I don’t fall foul of the system so much now, I have done in the past when works holiday dates could not be booked until well into the new year and especially when trying to include a weekend.

Would it work if every site allowed only 50% of their pitches to be booked at any time from the December booking date with the remaining 50% not being bookable until no more than 2 months before the planned visit date?  Most people, I think, should be able to work around this for planned main holidays. This should accommodate those that must fully book their year in advance and those that cannot.

I’m sure, (he says, tongue firmly in cheek), that the IT department could tweek the online booking program to accommodate this.

Whether it is a workable solution I don’t know, it’s just a germ of an idea to solve what is a problem for many members but remains fair to all. There may be an obvious reason why it wouldn’t work that is staring me in the face but I haven’t seen it. I’m sure someone will point it out if there is one.

Contrary to what some are against and reject out of hand, I think deposits would be a good idea. I cannot understand why some people are so against them unless they are seriously worried about losing them. The site fees have to be paid at some time so why not spread the cost?  There are many things in life that require a deposit, caravans and motorhomes being a good example.

With the current system there must be some members who book very early but know that they may well change their mind closer to the date, although I doubt that any would admit to this. I personally know one couple who regularly cancel bookings, not necessarily at the last minute but nonetheless may have deprived someone else from being able to book and they have to consequently look for an alternative site. Non-refundable deposits would reduce this sort of behaviour I believe.

I guess I will receive some flak but it would be nice to have a sensible debate.

Last AGM minutes ET and by the way it was my fingers working the keyboard. I know they are often not in synch and mabe thought flapping but they are not in the habit of quoting fiction so nothing to do with me gums ET.

I've just read the last AGM minutes for both clubs. Some stark differences in membership growth, average sites nights and insurance incomes. It's no surprise this Club has attempted to reinvent. Whilst the CMC has a much greater turnover, growth is behind in comparison.

PD is spot on, flat membership growth for the CMC, 5% membership growth (~54000) for the C&CC in 2015

Been there done that .......more years than I care to remember when we were both working  , OH retired several years ago & I retired last June .

Did we have any problems with booking our holiday time with the CC /CMC ......no not really it was a matter of having more than one set choice of sites or dates  , any that were full we booked we went somewhere else or used another provider .

My heart bleeds for everyone who thinks the CLUB should be run in their interest & they despair that they can't get what they want when they want.......that's life I'm afraid .

Take it or leave it ....or wait till retirement , then you'll have more options.............👍

Dont  " bleed for me" either. I find it quite incredible that someone should allow their life and holiday plans  to be governed by the availability of pitches on club sites or any other site provider for that matter. I took up caravanning so that we could go where we want when we want and it has always been so even when I was working. I only ever book 2 things , a ferry and  nights on club sites  for the journey to and from the port after that we have all the options we could ever want.

Quite so, Davidsmile

...and for all other times, theres the wonderful C&CC THS system of no booking, turn up and leave when you like, pay on departure, a few quid a night in wonderful locationssmile

We pick sites according to the area we want to visit. We read reviews and decide between what's offered, sometimes there's little choice in the area 😉. Previously we would have plumped for a club site if it was where we wanted it BUT these days we do far more comparisons.  The price, albeit for a known product, for club sites are getting silly at times. We are 2 adults never have another person 😢 rarely a dog with us and are more than happy to ultisie our own facilities. Plus the club sites we've used lately (Southport, Warwick, Ferrari Meadows) felt like a car parks, less so with the latter. They were chosen purely for location and we weren't looking to spend time on site, which is a shame in some ways as it cuts down on the social side of the site. We always acknowledge neighbours and fellow campers- sometime with mixed results 😉😂

Out of interest, are you a member of both clubs and do you use commercial sites, CL's and CS's?

In the last year, how many nights have been spent on CMC club sites out of your total and as this thread started about booking systems, which alternative do you prefer, if any, to the CMC system?

Only asking this as a comparison to my habits this year, in that a tiny proportion of nights I've booked have been on CMC club sites, mainly because there has been a night or two fully booked and unavailable during the periods I'm looking to reserve and I can't be bothered to keep checking to see if they become free nearer the time, or, I want to book further in advance than the Club will allow.
