Site Rules

I have seen various comments on this forum recently, but rather than make my own comments I thought I'd consult the Club's Site rules first.

Having tried and failed to find them, I used live chat and sure enough a link was sent to me to read the rules.

The problem comes when I try to access them myself without said link because they are just not visible. Do others have the same problem?

Surely it's something which should be easy to access, especially for newer members, non-members and of course, as a refresher for the more forgetful - like me?

I wonder how many read and /or bother to abide by the rules anyhow.  We find the rules well set out to provide consideration for everyone on site, without infringing  on the freedom of anyone to enjoy their stay.  Yet there always seems to be an element who find it difficult to follow the rules in one way or another.

Last year, at Sandringham, I had reason to advise two visitors about their failings.   One was when an unleashed dog came onto our pitch and wet on our EHU cable.  The owner offered to wash the cable - I said I could do that myself, but had he abided by the rules we would not be having this conversation.   The second event was when a visitor drove his vehicle onto the grass finger and almost scraping my car on one side, and the awning of the neighbouring pitch.  It was totally stupid behaviour, because he could not manoeuvre his vehicle until he had reversed from between our outfits, but he had put both at risk of damage.  Typically, I was in the wrong for pointing out the errors of their ways.

I can remember our early camping days, when we all considered each other without any need for rules.  Why can't it be like that now?

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing, mostly inaccurate but wonderful👍🏻😊.

Not really true.  People have changed over the years - self discipline and respect for others has significantly deteriorated generally.  If one takes the camping fraternity in isolation, it is deteriorating more slowly than in other areas of social gathering, thank goodness, but it has still worsened since our early camping days.

Whatever social environment one happens to be among, you only have to look at how things are today, and compare them to how it used to be. And the older you are, the ability to look back further shows a greater change.

Technology, living standards, life expectancy, etc., have all contributed to positive improvements, but socially we have paid a heavy price for them.  It is the lack of considerate behaviour that has produced the mass of rules we face today.

Also the older the folk are generally the less tolerant they are too. When you were young you were most probably more laid back & easy going. I often see the words-‘when I was young it was much bigger/better/, folk cared more’ I personally think it’s the nostalgia thing & that’s akin to rose tinted glasses. No offence intended purely my view. Back in the day all men were not gentlemen & all women were not ladies. I was there too👍🏻😊.

It's sad that self respect and respect for others on campsites have deteriorated, but all is not lost.  Camping organisations such as the CMC have issued a clear set of on-site rules to ensure that customers enjoy a great holiday without being inconvenienced.

Of course those rules have to be enforced by the CMC on- site employees and on many sites customers will have a great time without inconvenience, as the particular site staff are doing their job properly.

BUT :- not all sites are free of customer inconvenience are they?. CMC Rules are obviously being broken with impunity.

wink
