How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

I’ve started this discussion to try and collect together any direct comparisons between CC and C&CC.

One mentioned several times is that C&CC charge deposits with bookings, whereas CC does not. In that same discussion, it was mentioned that the C&CC membership was larger than CC’s, which surprised me. Can anyone provide the stats?

What other factual differences can be identified?

With regard to Sandy Balls their system seems to charge very high figures during peak periods and giveaway ones outside these. The difference is though they have lots of other ways to take your money when you are there so are not comparable with club sites who do not and presumably rely on those extras to balance the books.

Write your comments here...So that surely is a commercial decision rather than a planning constraint!

Some sites have planning restraints to prevent them being used for residential purposes. At the same time there is simply not enough business in Winter to justify opening all the other sites and commercial decisions have to be made to prevent a substantial deficit being incurred.

Write your comments here...Well it's not good for the tourist and leisure industry for planners to think that people shouldn't have winter holidays, is it? The closure of sites in the winter also sends the message to caravanners that caravanning is only a summer activity and that's not good for the caravan industry either, is it?

...Malcolm ,no organisation is going to commit commercial suicide by keeping something open in case someone might want to use it ,thats why even some of those that are open out of the main holiday period are hovering on earlier closure,eg Looe in Cornwall used to be open later,

Jury is still out for us on joining other club, as we don't spend that much time in the UK on sites. However we are interested in the rallies the other club holds in Spain and Portugal in winter, they might fit nicely with our thoughts of extended holidays at the back end of the year.

Has anyone used these rallies, and if so what are your comments please.

We went to rallies for 5 years while my husband was alive. It was a good way of finding out about ideas of other places to go.  There are normally some activities arranged, but not everyone attends them.  We usually spent about half our time away on rallies and the rest going on our own. Most ralliers spent the majority of their time on rallies as they did not feel confident about going on their own.

Write your comments here...Hotels, guest houses, B&Bs all get less trade in the winter than in the summer but they still remain open, so why should it be different for caravans?

Can we please stop lengthy multi quoting.I have had to edit several posts by different members  to delete excess quoting. If people feel it necessary to quote, which as a debate it is often not needed,  please cut and paste the comment you are referring to, this will make it easier for people to read.

When you leave the sort of busy places that you live in, like Brighton and nearby heavily populated areas, things are a lot quieter out of the main season.

But the OP compares two clubs and they both have some sites open all year, plus Cls and CSs.

Thanks for the reply Meg. We are quite happy going on our own, we thought that joining a rally for a couple of weeks at a time and then moving to another one would be a good way of finding new places to visit and of course making new friends. Your comments have supported that idea, again many thanks.

It isn't always the case, when we lived on the Isle of Wight lots of the guest houses and b&bs closed for the winter. So why should all caravan sites stay open?
