How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

I’ve started this discussion to try and collect together any direct comparisons between CC and C&CC.

One mentioned several times is that C&CC charge deposits with bookings, whereas CC does not. In that same discussion, it was mentioned that the C&CC membership was larger than CC’s, which surprised me. Can anyone provide the stats?

What other factual differences can be identified?

For me the one that actually has a provision

The problem is, Kennine, if they took the forum down, we would not be able to use it and that would give rise to more complaints. It's better to have a less than perfect forum than no forum at all, don't you think?

K

Re your point about the two forums. For all the short comings of the CC forum software they had at least given serious thought to member security. On the otherhand it became clear that the C&CC had totally under estimated the need for member security and that, as I understand things is the reason they took the forum down to address that issue. The C&CC forum only had a soft launch, I suppose to identify such issues so perhaps easier to take it down compared to our own one here. Hindsight is always a wonderful thing and I suspect forums and their impact have been pretty steep learning curves for both Clubs!!!

Write your comments here...Malcolm, In my opinion there should be no complaints -- There are loads of caravanning forums on the net, you can get all the same answers to your questions and give advice on every one, so taking one of them off- line until it has been fixed would have no impact.

Besides most of the regular posters, on here, myself included, are also members of other caravanning forums and there is no need to lose contact.

Forums come and forums go - It's no problem. There is never a shortage of forums. -------------------------------------- It's never a good move to put all your eggs in one basket so to speak.

We're talking club forums here, where there are members who have paid to join and use club sites and other facilities like financial payments, insurance and travel. Security is paramount as the C & CC have found out and hopefully are putting right.

Write your comments here... I can't speak for the other forums as I've never used them. I only learnt about the Caravan Club forum through membership of the club and their invitation to members to join.

I would not want to take the forum down to fix it. I am a regular on other forums under different names but not all contributors here are. If you take this down then many of them will go elsewhere and if they are happy we will lose them from here which would mot be good.

Another point about the comparison between the CC and the C&CC which has not been mentioned is how they deal with obvious poor parts of the business.

Take their forums for example.

The C&CC reailised that their forum was poor and unfit for purpose and out of respect for their members they took the forum down and it will not be made available until they are satisfied that the members using the forum will have a forum which works properly.

The CC however took a different approach and have done nothing for years about their poor and unfit for purpose forum.

Which organisation has the best attitude towards their members regarding their forum.  ???

Write your comments here...disagree,quite happy with CC website and forum performance.Wouldn't  be on here otherwise. Not a C&CC member or used their forum or website so cannot comment on theirs.

I don't consider that to be a valid question.

I'm a C&CC member, but they are really in the baby stages of introducing a forum. After they released their first version, which even then was still in the beta stage, they quickly took it offline again as those members who stumbled across it, including a few who are also CC members, pointed out that they were putting forum members' security at risk.

The C&CC Forum is nowhere near being sufficiently developed to even begin to compare it with CC CT, or to make any useful judgement on what their organisation's "attitude towards their members is" based solely on relative forum development.

I'm sure they'll be OK in time. However, to totally disregard the security implications of the public display of members' identity wasn't really a great start!
