Excessive site fees

Just returned from Chester Fair Oaks site, one night, £31.30 !!, I nearly choked on my dentures, It was our first trip out this year, only able to book something last minute.Ok, apparently, our over night stay was classed as still in  the 'High' season, but £31.30 per night (two adults) to stay in my own caravan is ridiculous. The club is in danger of  killing the goose that layed the golden egg. it's easy sometimes to forget that we have also paid a membership fee for the privilege of being charged so much.

Due to price we have only used 5 club sites for a total of about 10 days in the last 4 years as opposed to using 30+ CL's in the same period.  CL's are the jewel in the crown of the CC.

Like you I tend to stay on CLs rather than CC sites, partly due to pitch fees but also prefer the 5 van option. Having said that I was just checking the prices for next week at Blackpool South and the total pitch fee for two members is only £15.65p and that is no more than the pitch fees on many CLs in the area.Undecided

Guess that's with midweek discount, nevers.

Yes that is with the midweek discount but it does show that contrary to what some posters think, the CC is already making the effort to attract members in what would otherwise be quieter weeks. Smile

After 7pages I am still waiting to see a post for a hotel, bed and breakfast, cottage or static caravan thats Cheaper? When such accomodation becomes cheaper we're off. Until then we stay as vanners, sorry, but I dont see the point in moaning about prices. You have to look at the bigger picture when you have a van, not just a one off night. I cannot on a per night price basis, including running costs, beat this style of holiday. I walk past Euston station twice daily, some Friday nights the Ibis hotel will gladly tap you up £199 for a room for 2 with a continental breakfast(wow). I appreciate the costs for some may seem extreme but its all relative.

St Jo of course when we were working we could and did pay silly prices for liesure activities but like a lot of pensioners we have a fixed income which is about 25% of our previous salaries!  This will and does concentrate the mind somewhatLaughing

Not only CC but the Cls also seem to have increased their prices substantially. Is there a club agenda here.Conversley the commercial sites have reduced their prices and are making some really good offers out of peak. Next week we are going to the Lleyn peninsular. No CC site but basic Cls are £14. Haven are offering hard standing  super ptches at £13/14. during the same period and in the same area.

Fact.  Hundreds of hotels, B & Bs and other accommodation offer discounts in low to mid seasons.  They may cost more than £20 a night, but you do not have to lug a caravan around the country so a savings there.  You don't have to make up the beds and wash the sheets.

Most are located in towns or cities so many attrractions are within easy reach.  Many accept dogs and children.  Some have additional facilities like pubs, restaurants etc. However you cannot really compare the two.

I think its an age thing for us  OAP's. We wre brought up in times of austerity and the mantra was"think of the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves"
