We’d like to invite you to our brand new Facebook page – which is live today – a special preview for Club Together members. We will be using Facebook to spread the word about The Club, share news, offers advice and inspiration; it joins our other channels in offering you more choice in how you connect with The Club.

We want you to join our ever-growing community, so we’re offering an exclusive. We are giving away 20 pairs of site night vouchers for this week only. All you need to do is find our Club Together milestone on our Facebook timeline and comment with #sitenightvoucher.

Please remember that Facebook is a public forum, we want to showcase the best of The Club and our members, so don’t forget to check out our House Rules.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on our new social media channels, please comment on this thread and let us know what you think.

Prize draw closes at midnight on 13 August; visit Facebook for full terms and conditions.

Find us on >>> Facebook <<< today and don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Instagram @thecaravanclub

Yup.

I am not arguing against Facebook per se because I know many really enjoy using it (including my other half) and that there is a closed group Facebook version of CT enjoyed by many.

My concern (and point) is that the club appears to be beginning to discriminate against those that choose not to use it or want anything to do with it.

Whether we like it or not, modern communications largely revolve around the Internetty!

Any public-facing organisation has to have a presence on all available and appropriate communication outlets as part of its business strategy.

It's not just about selling. It's also about customer satisfaction. Facebook is huge - it dwarfs Twitter usage, for example. And forums are now considered old-fashioned by many and are being left well behind as they just don't or can't match the more flexible modern social media. platforms.

"Millenials" ie a person reaching young adulthood around the year 2000 even see Facebook as old hat - preferring sites such as snapchat & instagram, where their older relatives or employers are less likely to be lurking!

The point I'm trying to come to with the above meanderings is that communication is moving much more quickly in the modern world as a result of the advent of the internet, and it's important for the Caravan Club to move with these changes or be left behind.

That's my two-pennorth!!

Cheers

Bugs

Don't disagree Bugs and having just completed 3 years at Uni on a Business degree I am probably as up to speed with these things as anyone.

But that's nothing whatsoever to do with my points and concern about the club disadvantaging non Facebook users by only allowing access to comps and special offers to those that use it.

I think that one is more a question of logistics and cost. Very few members (in proportion to the overall membership) use the forum, for example.

So if we are saying that a competition aimed at attracting members to Facebook should also be open to members on this forum - surely the argument then runs oh, and it needs to be communicated to all members and also added to the magazine.

If you see what I mean?

Cheers

I do indeed Bugs and I would suggest they come up with ways to promote their Facebook page in ways that do not discriminate.

It's just not good business practice to wazz off (technical term) sections of your customer base.

Anyway, I have spouted enough Happy

Although I have now joined the CC Facebook page, I have no intention of posting on it and entering the competition. To be in with a chance of winning a site voucher, for me,  is neither here nor there. So far only 20 people have entered the competition as far as I can see so those who are not or will not be on Facebook are in my opinion, missing very little actually.  Facebook is, however, for businesses, a great way to communicate and costs nothing. There is no need for people to put anything on it if they don't want to , I know many who post nothing of themselves and just receive info from various organisations.

Facebook seems to be mainly full of drivel posted by people with nothing better to do with themselves which is why I gave up on it after only a few months.

After all my friends are those who I can see and talk to and not some imaginary so called "friend" on Facebook who I have never met!

My Facebook "friends" are not imaginary, but maybe someone I haven't seen for a long time, or distant far flung cousins, or a group of people with a like minded interest who share news etc.

We've just been 'bullied' in the nicest possible way to get on FB and haven't 'friended' anyone we don't know but it is amazing all the links to people that do pop up from mutual friends from the dim and distant past!

I think it is a good way of keeping in touch - a bit of a move on from sending postcards back from holiday! So far, not found any disadvantages as I use it how I want to use it and it doesn't dominate our lives. Still not been on the Club FB page though....
