We are delighted to announce that our ‘Caravanner of the Year’ competition was filmed by the BBC and will be on BBC2 on 20 and 27 April!

We hope it gets you in the mood for getting out there and enjoying the summer season on our wonderful sites network.

The enthusiasts were faced with a variety of challenges covering activities such as manoeuvring, navigation, hospitality and caravanning knowledge.  There was also the precision challenge of the Concours D’Elegance which demanded much polishing and primping of their vehicles!

The first programme will introduce the entrants and whittle them down to the three finalists.

Tune in and watch, and don’t forget to tell your friends and family about it too!

I know that TV presenters will always try to present sensational or humourous aspects of any subject such as our hobby of caravanning.  However, I have to agree with the majority of comments above that this programme was nothing but a huge PR disaster for the Caravan Club.  HOW EXTREMELY EMBARRASING TO ALL MEMBERS.  Sorry Grenville but this was not yours' or the Club's finest moment.

What I want to know is 1. How did they all manage to get hard standing pitches, and with empty pitches opposite, did they all arrive before12am? 2. How did they all manage to pitch together, did someone run in before booking in time and save a space? 3. Why didn't the wardens reprimand them for cleaning the caravan on site? Don't worry that it was a total embarrassment and that no one will now ever want to join the CC, they will just all think there are plenty of hard standing pitches available and you can just pull in where you want to. Biggest load of rubbish ever!

Do we get a vote for the chairman at the AGM. If we do then any chairman who sanctioned this rubbish will not get my vote. After embarrasing himself by ruining a caravan in trying to drive up a slope like that and using white gloves to inspect the vans he now needs to resign immediately. This program has done more damage to the great pastime of caravanning than the whole series of  Top Gear. I will definitely not be watching the next programme.

That programme was disgusting. I have been a caravanner for nearly 30 years and I spend my professional life promoting and teaching road safety and examine advanced driving for ROSPA.

The caravan club chairman has shown himself in a totally irresponsible and immature light along with his so called motor home expert.

I will completely distance myself from anything to do with the club now if that is what it is about.

If he was appointed chairman what does that day about the people who appointed him.

DISGUSTING!

Copy of my separate email to the club:

Just wanted to let you know that the program I have just cringed my way through was a total embarrassment for all caravan club members. Have you seen the comments on the discussions?

Whoever decided that was a good idea is an idiot - to watch the CEO rip the back off a caravan towing it up a completely inappropriate hill was ridiculous and only adds to the opinions of most non caravaners that we are not responsible road users.

I think you seriously need to think about how you can repair the damage this has done to the clubs reputation and how you have made your members feel!!!!!

What a joke !!!!! One member on the discussions asked if we had gone back in time to April Fools Day!!!!!

Well there you go. Another program about caravans that is deliberately designed to paint it in a bad light - only this one is endorsed, sanctioned by and starring the Caravan Club. I've got to say however I'm not entirely surprised. All those involved should be ashamed of themselves as all this program acheives is to reinforce the stereotyping we all put up with.
