Club Together will be hosting Ask the Expert with our Social Media Manager, Graham on September 12 at 6pm.

Graham will be here to answer your questions about social media at The Caravan Club, and will be giving advice on how you can engage with The Club via its new social channels.

This year The Club has launched its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles to join the ranks of Club Together and YouTube, and this is your chance to find out how social media is developing at The Club and how you can get involved.

Start submitting your questions here which will be answered LIVE on September 12 from 6pm – 8pm

Why is there no section for "Visitors Posts" as on other business sites?

HI Goldie, as per my response to Peedee, we set up our Facebook account so that visitors could comment on our posts but not directly onto the newsfeed.  This is pretty standard with business pages  - most brands operate this way as it allows visitor interacion but keeps the newsfeed focussed around The Club's content. Facebook is just one of the channels members/visitors can engage with The Club through social media - Club Together is by far still the most used, with Twitter becoming popular for customer service. Hope that helps. Kind regards, Graham.

Thankyou Graham, pleased to hear Club Together is still doing well as a contact point. Yes, please reveal the second most popular contact, although I think can guess! Smile

Coming in second.... Facebook: great engagement rates considering we have only been officially live since 15th August. We are on 15k fans in less than a month. But Twitter is increasingly popular for direct customer service. Thanks Brue, hope you having a nice evening.

Hi Graham, I've looked you up on Linkedin as I wondered what being a Social Media Manager really meant! Pleased to read you've enjoyed owning a campervan and have two dogs who travel too. Can you explain briefly the benefits of social media to all CC members and will Club Together see some improvements as it's way behind the other types of social contact now on offer. As an example we seem to suffer from system faults like error messages and blank pages. How far off are the promised improvements, we rarely get the prompt CC responses and updates seen on Facebook etc. Many thanks. Smile

Moderator edit: Link to personal social profile has been removed

Hi Brue, great question. I guess a social media manager could mean different things in different organisations.  I’ve worked in social media for 7 years and recently started here at TCC to set up our social media channels. I have been working to develop channels that work together to build an engaged community that showcases the values of The Club and the benefits of membership. We are in Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram.  They don't in any way replace CT - which in effect is a social media channel. As for your question on improvements to CT, can I refer you to my response to JVB66 above. We are getting there... Kind regards, G.

Thanks again Graham, I am pleased we have had this opportunity to ask about the CC's application of social media. Smile

Forget my last question Graham. I was referring to presenting the figures and using them as a reference source for a level 7 Masters Degree (MBA) I am considering doing

Thanks again for your time.

Not at all. Have a look at Social Bakers also, and I follow a lot of stats and data aggregators in Twitter, some are a very USA focussed but it's good to see global trends. (social media Examiner, Econsultancy).

Interesting to see how our caravanning, mororhoming and camping/glamping seem to be increasingly 'on trend' - we are all trail blazers. Kind regards. G

Will the experts be answering the question 'Why are we still not getting email updates for the discussion we are following on CT?'? It is 3 weeks now since the link stopped working.

Hi Milliehull, again, thanks for your patience on this. The problem has now been escalated to our IT department, who are working hard to solve the problem. The reason it is taking a while is that this is the same team are those who are working on the launch of the new website, and so things are taking a little longer than usual. We are pushing hard to get this resolved and understand your frustration. Kind regards, G.

Now here's a thought. If I am new to caravanning I am encouraged to go on a 2 day towing course (which I have done) so is our new media expert going to arrange 2 day tuition courses for us ancient members so that we can get to grips with Instagram, Facebook, Trolling, Internet TV, mobile phones, Twitter, Downloading/uploading, VPNs, Tethering, Chat rooms, Dating rooms etc.?

It'll be interesting to hear from from him.

Hi Redface, I'm afraid I cannot offer a two day course on how to use social media - and not about dating rooms, I am a married man! There are lots of free resources online to guide you on social media and I am here until 8pm tonight to help with any questions you may have about The Club's social media pages. http://www.gcflearnfree.org/topics/socialmedia/ is a 3rd party site that offers some free tutorials on social media which you may find useful. They have some good tips on privacy controls. Note that is not an endorsement of the site, just an example of services available. Hope that was of help. If you have any burning questions, Rochelle will start a thread where you can share you hints and tips, and will answer as many questions as she can. Kind regards, G

Thanks Graham, although I am not into Facebook (for various reasons) I recognise it's use in the business environment.

Cheers

We are now in the period defined as the 'anthropocene'. It seems that we were promised the 'new' CT back in the Pleistocene or earlier. How soon is "soon"?

"Soon", regarding announcing the new website improvements is a little vague Graham, if you will excuse my blunt Yorkshire replyHappy. Regular users of CT and other areas of the website have been waiting a very long time regarding a better online service, particularly one that helps with site selection and improvements to the CL searches. Could you not provide us with a few teasers on how things might be improved, come the new website? Thank you.

That's not blunt for where I come from in Yorkshire takethedogalong, but it's not an invitation to get blunter Happy I completely appreciate this is quite frustrating for regular CT users like yourself but cannot expand on the previous responses until we are confident on a go-live date. Once we have a firm date for launch we will be sure to communicate the details. Kind regards, G.
