Day 6 - Concorde & Dunham Massey
The day starts with a trip to the Runway Visitor Park near Manchester Airport. The park’s viewing area affords views of the planes taking off and landing at the airport but it's also home to some retired aircraft that you can get up close to. The planes include an RAF Nimrod spy plane and a DC-10 passenger jet, but the highlight has to be Concorde! The famous and much loved supersonic plane has found a home at the park and you’ll have the privilege of a group tour of the aircraft, giving you a taste of the life of the rich and famous who flew on Concorde. Try out the seats, see where Queen Elizabeth II once sat, and experience being right at the front of the plane in the flight deck!
The afternoon takes you to the rather more serene setting of Dunham Massey Hall, a 17th-century country house and gardens that is now part of the National Trust. Enjoy the formal gardens, including the Rose Garden and the expansive parkland that is home to a herd of Fallow deer. Take a look at the Dunham Mill, a watermill that has a long history on the estate, before venturing into the Hall itself to discover the house’s history, which includes a period as a military hospital during World War I, and see the house’s collection of Huguenot silver.
