Kotor (nearest campsite: Camping Zlokovic)
This stunning coastal city boasts a historic old town and some seriously impressive views. Wind your way around the mediaeval streets and enjoy people-watching in a cafe-strewn square, or if you’re feeling energetic you take a walk along the city walls to enjoy the most incredible views of the city and Kotor Bay and its famous landmark ‘Our Lady of the Rocks’.

Lake Skadar (Nearest campsite: Camping Maslina)
The largest lake in the Balkans, Lake Skadar is an important wetland habitat and breeding habitat for more than 250 species of birds, including the rare Dalmatian Pelican. From the village of Virpazar take a boat trip to get up close to the local wildlife.

Tara Canyon (nearest campsite: Camp at Bocha’s)
The deepest canyon in Europe, Tara Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is perfect for thrill-seekers and sightseers alike. Adrenaline junkies can get their fix with some white water rafting, canyoning or zip-lining, or for a more sedate day out, a walk along the Tara Canyon Bridge offers some of the best canyon views around.

Budva (nearest campsite: Camping Maslina)
One of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast, Budva is known for its atmospheric old town and the beautiful riviera of nearly 20 beaches that surround the old town. Don’t miss the famous Ballerina of Budvar statue that sits atop the rocky shoreline, and the historic Citadel which houses the town museum.

Festival: Dan Siruna October: Budva celebrates Dan Siruna. It's a celebration revolving around the fishermen, the port and its seafood and in the old town there is traditional music and celebrations

Food and Drink

Ajvar
A roasted red pepper dip eaten with salad, served with bread or as an accompaniment to meat dishes.

Podgorički Popeci
These veal fritters are wrapped with prosciutto, stuffed with local Montenegrin cheese and fried.
Priganice
Small, airy doughnuts served savoury with cheese or sweet with honey or jam.

Rakija
A strong brandy-like spirit which you will find in šljivovica (plum) or Loza (grape) flavours.

Things to check

Vehicle insurance: check with your insurer that Montenegro is on their covered countries list and take your original Certificate of Motor Insurance so that you can prove your cover status when entering Montenegro at the border checkpoint. Any foreign registered cars without suitable valid insurance will be asked to buy insurance at the border crossing. You'll also need your original V5C vehicle log book. The Club's car and motorhome/campervan policies both cover Montenegro.

Driving Licence: an International Driving Permit (version 1968) is required and this can be purchased from 'Paypoint' outlets before you leave the UK.

Travel Insurance: There is a reciprocal healthcare agreement for British nationals visiting Montenegro which covers emergency treatment at state medical facilities and an EHIC/GHIC is required for this. The UK government recommends everyone has adequate travel insurance for all trips abroad as EHIC/GHIC don't provide repatriation or cancellation cover. The Club's Red Pennant Personal policy covers Montenegro.

Caravan insurance cover: check with your insurer that Montenegro is on the covered countries list. The Club's Caravan Cover does include Montenegro.

Mobile phone roaming costs: calls or data used in Montenegro may not be covered under your usual EU roaming agreement so check with your provider.
