Warm and welcoming people in a country filled with natural wonders from the beautiful Bay of Kotor to the stunning mountain ranges of the Durmitor National Park.
With mountain scenery, coastal gems and historic villages, Montenegro is fast becoming the new tourism hotspot of the Balkans.
Montenegro is a small country with enormous variety. The Adriatic coastline offers beaches and crystal clear waters and is dotted with villages to explore, while inland you’ll find spectacular mountain landscapes and Europe’s deepest canyon. There are no less than 5 National Parks to explore, varying from Wetland landscapes teeming with rare birdlife to rugged mountains and gorges.

Unlike the other countries in our European programme, Montenegro is not yet a member of the European Union so it is important to check UK government advice before travel in case anything is different to what you are used to when travelling within the EU.
As Montenegro is not part of the Schengen Area you will need to go through a border checkpoint to enter the country and there are often queues at these border crossings in the peak travel periods so if possible plan to avoid crossing at weekends or go prepared with provisions for a wait.
The popular coastal route can be busy so patience may be required and whilst the inland roads may be less busy care should be taken especially in regard to speed limits.
Conveniently the official currency is the Euro and credit cards are widely accepted so there is no need to exchange a different currency.
