In Praise of Norfolk and Suffolk, July 2013

We agree that Norfolk & Suffolk is a fabulous holiday area.  Some of the finest beaches and the countries driest counties.  Fantastic CLs and club sites. Loads of National Trust places Sheringham Park and Blakeney being our favourite and a good bus service around the counties.  Coast Hopper in Norfolk is excellent. Sunflower House at Yoxford we are visiting for the first time next week.  Anybody who likes miles of golden clean sands where dogs are welcome on part of the beaches. CLs that are first class and don't cost the earth, friendly folk who make you so welcome, a slow pace of life, loads of sunshine and hardly any rain then Norfolk and Suffolk are well worth a visit.

Is Hawthorne Farm a CL?

Hi bmb, yes Hawthorne Farm is a CL in Holt and has received good reviews. : ) 

Like you our trip to France did not happen this year.  Well it happened but we got as far as Caen and had a problem with our brand new caravan and decided that the best thing was to come back home.  CC kindly re-arranged our return ferry and after our caravan was sorted out we wondered what to do. Having spent over £300 on a ferry once we couldn;t afford to do it again this year so like you decided to go to Norfolk.  We had 2 weeks at The Norfolk Broads site and had a fabulous time.  Wonderful weather and a wonderful part of the country, just what we needed and we shall certainly go back.

My wife and i also had a holiday in Suffolk at White House Beach had a great time lovely weather and great site.But can i ask anybody if they have heard anything on the dog disease problem at sandringham it all seems to have gone quiet many thanks.Lancejack.

I shall be going to the CC site at Kessingland in October.  Not been to Norfolk or Suffolk in nearly 30 years.

The one thing I do like about that part of the world, is that it is devoid of steep hills.

For all cc members with dogs, and wondering about the canine dog virus, it is peak season(end of August until January) for the virus at the moment and is still  under investigation as yet no answer as to why it causes the dogs to go down within 24hrs.Heres hoping 2014 will bring some answers, as my dogs love the woods!

We too went to Norfolk this year, in our case for the first time. As we booked late and it was August we had to split our 4 weeks there between 3 CLs - South Creake, Cromer and Wells.  Hedonist mentions the lack of hilsl, but there's lots of narrow roads and you need to plan a towing route carefully - even parts of the coast road are off limits.  Spoke to someone from the area on a site in Herefordshire last week and he said that the Coasthopper is under threat due to the County Council planning to stop their subsidy as (in their view) it tends to benefit visitors rather than locals!  How short sighted can you get, the bus takes over 60s to all the local villages where they spend money in the shops, pubs and cafes!

As we are originally from Suffolk we often return. We have mostly had brilliant weather, in 2009 for a whole month and our friends near manchester didn't believe us. Stayed at 2 cls this year both of which were excellent Shrublands near Wells in Norfolk and Croft Farm Snape in Suffolk
