In Praise of Norfolk and Suffolk, July 2013

This story happened on: 31/07/2013

Over the last few summers we have always caught a ferry and gone off to explore France but this year we decided to stay at home for a change and head east – always hotter and drier!

Week 1 Holt, Norfolk staying at Hawthorne Farm – excellent site within walking distance of the town and close enough to the coast and the delights of Sheringham, Wells Next the Sea, Blackeney etc. Beautiful inland villages and waterways.

Week 2 Yoxford, Suffolk staying at Sunflower House – another excellent site and close to the resorts of Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness.

East Anglia isn’t well served with motorways and consequently doesn’t appear to have suffered commercialisation and progress into the 21st century and for some of us thats brilliant.

Stopped off on the way home - 48 Swaffham Rd, Burwell near Cambridge– another must visit place and marvel at the colleges.

Was I disappointed that we didn’t go abroad – you bet – but we had a brilliant time and it was ridiculously hot and we barely saw a drop of rain.

For all cc members with dogs, and wondering about the canine dog virus, it is peak season(end of August until January) for the virus at the moment and is still  under investigation as yet no answer as to why it causes the dogs to go down within 24hrs.Heres hoping 2014 will bring some answers, as my dogs love the woods!

the Lynn News and Averstiser ran an article on the canninne illness that has been affecting dogs visiting Sandringham Wood and they believe it to be the harvest mite, but they are not 100% sure

Norfolk and Suffolk do have a lot to offer and very varied scenery and landscape.  We particularly like the Broads and the Club site at Ludham Bridge is ideal for touring this area.  We have stayed at Sandringham in the past and used it as a base for touring the north and west coasts.  This year we also visited Suffolk and 'did' Constable Country.  Flatford Mill (Haywain) is fascinating.  Not many decent sites in the area, though, and we used the C&CC site at Polstead as our base.
