Mixed feelings

We had high hopes for this site based on the descriptions and thought it would suit us as a chilled out site where you can relax outside in nature however unfortunately we were left feeling quite disappointed. Nearly every single pitch is in complete shade due to the density and height of the trees, and I mean complete shade, making it very dark and dreary and not very pleasant to sit out at all if, like us, you do enjoy a bit of sun. The pitches are very higgledy-piggledy and intertwined with tents and installed safari tents which can make it quite noisy and feel not very private. The site is very steep and quite difficult to navigate by vehicle as the roads are very narrow with sharp turns. There is one Motorhome Service Point for fresh drinking water and chemical toilet emptying but this is quite difficult to find in amongst the trees and didn’t appear very hygienic as the drinking water pipe and the black water pipe are immediately next to each other and fitted literally cm’s from the open waist-height chemical toilet! Maybe it was due to the time of the year, but when we stayed in July it was also completely overrun with unruly, unsupervised kids so any the peace and quiet that we were hoping for was completely shattered with the constant screaming and screeching. On the plus side, there is an outdoor snack restaurant/bar open for breakfast croissants and reasonably priced pizzas and croquettes with a nice decking area overlooking the small outdoor pool. The staff are nice and friendly and you can order fresh bread ready for collection at Reception the next morning. The toilets/showers were clean and functional with toilet paper and soap. There is also a laundry room and outdoor dish washing area. There is daily entertainment of some type or another including live bands in the evening which we enjoyed. For us, the best thing about this site is it’s location to the lovely, clean Sables Blancs beach which is around 5-10 minutes walk down a very steep hill (the walk back is not recommended for those with walking difficulties) and great for paddle boarding. Opposite the beach are a number of reasonable priced bars and restaurants which have a nice atmosphere and we enjoyed a couple of good fun nights down there. Unfortunately of the various places we enjoyed during our 2 week Brittany stay this site was our least favourite but I think it was more that it didn’t live up to our expectations.
