We stayed in the new area that I believe was only created last year.
The toilet and shower block is more akin to a 5* hotel - marble walls and floors (Underfloor heating).
The staff were very friendly and helpful and, even at low season, provided basic supplies like bread and beer.
There is an award winning cheese producer literally in view of the campsite.
Stopped at the is site with a 8m long twin axel caravan, the two of us and two kids (5 & 17). Site has recently been expanded with a new section through a barrier. The new section has a more open feel than the main site and has a very fancy new shower and toilet block but the whole site is lovely. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Play area, football pitch and bar-b-que area and very good.
Not a criticism as the location is quiet and very pretty but it didn't totally suit us as a family as was a decent drive to anywhere of significant size for days out with the little one (our learning experience on first European caravan trip and personal preference!).
Access through the village was a little tight but fairly new to towing and managed fine!
Would very much recommend, particularly if you're looking for a base for outdoor activities is this lovely part of the world.
We had 3 nights booked here & despite having to find it via a very poorly signposted diversion due to 5k people running a marathon it was a very pleasant stay.
Family run, set on an old wood mill of which there are relics everywhere + motorbikes & scooters, hence my title.
Shower block is the most amazing you will find but we did have problems with getting hot water, not sure if this was due to low occupancy & energy saving or a fault & one night I used our own.....
It has a great bbq area which was a little overgrown but during busy periods I guess it would be an amazing set up, which includes marble/granite prep areas.....
There are several little casas available to rent & work is being finalised on a new modern shower block & further modern rentals which they hope to complete by this summer.....
Thanks Jose for your chats & explanations & allowing us to view the little casa that is set up for tent campers who don't have larger facilities..... great 'out of the box' thinking as it has cooking, dining & lounge facilities all in one.
Great stop for short or longer stays.
Recommended.
If heaven is missing a campsite, then this is it! The site is simply beautiful and peaceful and supported by great facilities. Arrival is through a village which involves some care in passing through. Reception is adjacent the small car park and where there is a bar and dining room for light breakfasts and lunches. Guests are asked to find their pitch and let reception know so that electricity can be provided, The pitches are large and well grassed.
The site is located in a beautiful location in a river valley with small villages. The valley is sided with spectacular hills.
We stayed for three nights. I wish we could have had longer.
Only stopped here for two nights on our return journey via Santander and Brittany Ferrries. We chose here to be reasonably close to the ferry port so that there would be no stress getting there on time. The site is about 50 mins drive with caravan from the ferry port and the route is straightforward.
The site itself is set in a valley surrounded by mountains. The Rio Saja, a fairly large picturesque river, runs down the valley.
The site was clean, well laid out and the facilities (Showers etc) were good. Though on our first morning when the site had very few visitors, it took forever for the hot water to come through to the showers. When it did it was good and hot with good water pressure and the shower cubicles were roomy with plenty of space to change and dry.
We ate in Ruente at a restaurant recommended by the staff. It was good. We took the menu del día. Great fish.
José-Marie on the site couldn't have been more helpful and we counted the number of new Spanish words that he added to my spanish vocabulary. He happily allowed me to practise my spanish.
Make sure to visit La Fuentona in Ruente, a pleasant post-prandial wander. It has a fascinating story.
This was our 1st stop out of 4 in Spain. 40 mins after getting off the boat and we are at the site. We were escorted in by one of the staff, checked in and hooked up within 20 mins. Wonderful grassy pitches and clean toilet block really got our trip off to a good start. You get to pick your own spot but the downside is that by the time you chose & get back to reception, someone may have already picked your spot! The site is situated within a beautiful valley with the village a short cycle or walk away. The supermarket there is basic but cover most needs and there are a couple of good restaurants in the village. The only downside for us was the 6 amp electric supply and the fact the hook up box is locked. On the final night, it kept tripping due to a faulty unit on site somewhere and a walk down to reception each time became a little tedious. Overall though, a wonderful little site with very friendly staff in a cracking location a short drive from the boat!!
This was our first ever Spanish site. We travelled straight to the site from Santander. We found it quite easily as we had already followed the route on Google street maps and it was very interesting to spot the police station, various villas and even the wheelie bins spotted on google street maps. There was a slight detour around the church when we arrived, but it was well marked so no problem. Check in was quick and we managed to understand each other with our very limited Spanish. The owner walked around the site to help us choose the pitch (they are mainly grass and virtually unmarked) and he then connected the electricity 6amp. The site was in a lovely area with plenty to see and do, although it was raining when we were there so didn't get much chance to explore. We walked around the village which seemed quite traditional.
The facilities were absolutely fine , clean and well equipped. The owner was friendly and helpful and next time we will dine in the restaurant on site.
Word of warning : if you are heading south from the site do not turn left when you get to the main road, especially towing a caravan. We did, and ended over 4,000ft up a mountain after miles of twisting almost single track road. The view was fantastic and worth the trek, but we had a few hairy moments to get there.
50 minutes from the ferry and quite easy to find although make sure you use the entrance road by the Guardia Civil as the village is quite tight in places. What a wonderful site set in a rural valley with fantastic views. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The toilet shower block was excellent very clean and always hot water on demand. Bars and restaurants are in walking distance and also a village shop selling bread and essentials. A big shop can be done at Mercadonna 15 minutes or Carrefour 30 minutes. We spent two weeks here and at the end felt totally relaxed and sorry to leave this great site.
If you are interested in visiting some of the cave paintings nearby such as Tito Bustilo and El Castilo and Alta Mira make sure you book online as footfall is limited each day
