We had planned to stay here on our first and last night in Spain. However, due to a very violent storm on our way out, the ferry was running several hours late. I contacted the site via its website from the ship to tell them we would be arriving late. It was fortunate that I did as they replied that the access road from the north had been cut by flooding and the site could only be accessed by a very complicated, 70 km , diversion. We carried on to what would have been our second stop. I got in touch with the site to ask what the position was for our return leg. The owner gave me timings when the road was being opened each day and we finally got there for our last night. He couldn't have been more helpful. Put us onto our pitch, hooked up the electrics (didn't fasten the box so that we were able to unplug ourselves and get under way in the morning.) Toilet block was immaculate with abundant hot water and showers which allowed you to adjust the temperature. The only small disappointment was that there was no toilet seat in the disabled loo, but this may have been an oversight at the beginning of the season. If returning to the area we would definitely stay here again and take more time to explore a very beautiful valley.
Authentically Spanish
We used this site as a stopover for arrival from Santander and before travelling across Spain - this is not a convenient location for that (as we discovered) as you have to back-track to get back on the roads that take you away from that coast - no matter though because it is such a super find that we did not mind the extra time it took us. From the map it looks as though this can be accessed along the way as you leave the Santander area, but this is not actually the case. It is certainly worth a couple of days though (so not suitable for a one night stop) - the shower block was spectacular with mirrors and decorations - spotless too. As we arrived towards the evening, we heard a stream but did not find it (getting dark) - location superb with high hills to one side and farmland to the other. Pitches tight but the atmosphere is lovely at this site. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the reception area gives you a really authentic Spanish feel - this was a lovely welcome. On the negative side, the electric has a lock on the door and this means that you need to arrange to be released in the morning - so no early get away. But I would certainly return if we wanted a few nights out in the middle of nowhere. Be aware that the site does not have a restaurant - just bar snacks - but a lovely bar area to sit in. I can definitely recommend if you want a site that is away from it all.
Delightful campsite
We have just spent a week at this campsite and would most certainly recommend it. We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival by the friendly and helpful staff, who showed us to our pitch and helped us to hook up to the electric.
It was 35C degrees when we arrived, which is quite unusual for the area. What was a delightful surprise, however, was that the shower / toilet / washing block was air conditioned. This was just one of the thoughtful and high quality elements to this block, however. There are ceramic wash basins set in granite tops with Roca mixer taps. Shower heads are large rainshower ones; washing up sinks are butler-style with mixer taps; radio / music is played; fresh flowers are placed in the toilet area; a bathroom for small children / families is available ... everything has been carefully considered. It is quite possibly the best shower block we have ever seen!
There are lots of taps around the site, meaning that you don't have to go too far for water. There are washing lines available, as well as several airers if you want to dry washing. The pitches are of a good size and mostly flat.
There is a small shop / bar near the reception area. You can purchase fresh bread, local cheese, fresh and tinned goods from the shop. The bar serves snacks throughout the day. We tried the sandwiches which were freshly made and reasonably priced (€3.50-€4.00) and turned out to be half a baguette generously filled.
The local village is beautiful with some striking buildings. There is a small supermarket in the next village (within reasonable walking distance) and there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area.
There is access to the river from the back of the campsite and within a few minutes' walk you can be swimming and splashing in a lovely quiet part of the river, which is wonderful on a hot day!
As others have said, take care when driving to the site if you are following SatNav, as some of the roads going into the village are narrow. Don't turn in until you see the Blue 'Camping' sign (by the Guardia Civil building) and then follow the blue signs towards the campsite.
The site is in a valley, with some fairly high hills either side. This means that the sun does not hit the site until at least an hour after sunrise and disappears behind the hill an hour(ish) before sunset. Therefore, it can be quite damp in the morning with dew on the grass. Best not to leave towels out overnight to dry!
All in all, this is a lovely site and we would certainly stay here again if we were in the area.

First Stop after leaving Santander Ferry.
You must take third turn on Left, for an easier drive through Sopina village.
This site could be tight for Caravan's in high season, due to Narrow site drive.
Toilets / shower block very clean.
Very quiet site ideal for visiting local attractions like the Picos de Europe mountain range, etc.
Brilliant!
We had a serious problem with the car on arrivall and the campsite owner could not have been more helpful. He recommended a garage and when the car was fixed within 24 hours he took us to the garage to collect it. Beautiful campsite. Wonderful shower block. Highly recommended. Good site for walking/hiking and bird watching, the Griffon vultures are amazing! We even saw two Egyptian vultures.
The local restaurant is worth a visit or two.
Amazing
This site is just fantastic. Owner works very hard to maintain very high standards. The area is stunning and the facilities are fantastic. Would definitely return.
Narrow approach roads
The site is well worth the trouble to get there! Breathtaking scenery in the mountains with a river beside the site. Owner has not spared any expense in making this site really nice, clean and tidy with good internal roads. Warm toilets in winter. Take care if using SatNav, the roads in town are really narrow with an overhanging balcony on the way. Avoid this by taking the second left instead of the first, this road is easier with only one narrow part.

Lovely site in a beautiful area
We are quite a large van and the road to the site is very narrow and we only had inches to spare!! We stayed here in December and were the only ones on site. The owner was very friendly and took us to our pitch. All large grass pitches. The shower block is amazing, music playing, lots of showers and toilets and the biggest shower heads you can get. The problem I had was no hot water so had a very luke warm shower in the morning. Will definitely stay again.
Peace and quiet
If peace and quiet, beautiful countryside and immaculate facilities are what you want, then this is the site for you. Amazing site with very friendly owners.
