NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

The first few days of our holiday weren't too bad and then the school trip arrived. There were insufficient facilities and they were not very clean. Cleaning generally was poor - just squirting the showers with cold water from a hosepipe is not really cleaning. There seem to be a lot of ground staff going around in vans, not sure what they were doing. We had to ask them to clean up the deposit after a horse and cart ride around the site right next to our pitch after they had driven around it at least 5 times and ignored it - very smelly. Food and service at the restaurant were terrible. Poor girl behind the bar could not cope and a single guy in the kitchen could not keep up with orders on a busy music evening. Food poor value at 15 Euros for mashed potato and a bit of minced meat in a glass pot heated in the microwave and some overcooked green beans. Also pizzas which were still cold in the middle and burnt around the outside after nearly an hour of waiting. Manageress runs around like a headless chicken and has her finger in too many pies - she should employ the proper amount of staff and give them direction.

Well located site for sightseeing.

This is a pretty site but I agree with the other reviews on here. The gravel roads are awful, it sticks to everything and covers the caravan & car when you go in and out. There was only one toilet block near to where we were and you had a good distance to walk to get there. The pitch we were allocated involved crossing a bridge which was no mean feat given our almost 8ft caravan and was thick with mud having been churned up by previous occupants. I do appreciate there had been rain but still not pleasant to sit/ walk on. The covered pool was nice and was mostly empty when we were there in June. The restaurant was staffed by just one man serving & apparently cooking although we heard alot of microwave pings prior to food arriving & the wait for food and drinks was terrible. We witnessed people leaving as they were fed up of waiting. The location of the site was good for sight seeing but I would be in no rush to return.

Nice peaceful site

Arrived late and as mentioned before the pitch allocated (late night arrival  box info) had someone already on it.No problem as there were a number of pitches free. The site roads are of fine gravel. Muddy when wet and it gets in you shoes when dry. Only one elsan point, which is some way off for some pitches. Two swimming pools, one very cold, the covered one nice! Staff very helpful and friendly. Limited entertainment at night (wine tasting on Fridays). Overall a pretty site, town, supermarket near with Angers and Saumur short drives.  The directions of the A11 at J14 point to the N250. New layout puts you on the A87 but still following the club's directions we found the site easy enough

Two week stay

Contrary to other reviews, we found the site easily from the clubs directions, although I would agree that sat nav puts the location a mile away. On arrival our welcome was friendly but inadequate as we were just given a  sheet with our pitch numbers on. These turned out to be incorrect and we had to move half way through setting up, not what you need after a long journey.  We didn't use the toilet block during our stay as it was too far away from our pitch. The one elsan point is near to the reception which is quite a trek from most pitches. Although dismissive of previous reviewers comments about the gravel path being a pain to walk on, I now know what they meant. It's a sand and fine gravel mix which fills your sandals and is annoying and painful to walk on. On wet days it clings to everything, and we had a car full by the time we left. The area in general is very quiet and unlike coastal regions the local towns closed up at tea time. The site entertainment for adults was limited to one night a week and was silenced quite early.  If you are looking for a chill out break then look no further.  If you like to go out and visit evening markets then this area may not be the right one for you.   Looks like it's back to the west coast next year...

Double Booked

We had to rely on a helpful local to guide us to the site! We were late arriving but a note had been left with our pitch details however there was another couple already on it - they had been there for a few days! The site wasn't too busy so we were able to set up on a near by pitch. There had recently been a problem with the electric supply and cables had to lie across the roads in order to reach a connection point. The bar/restaurant seemed to be undergoing repairs.  The town of Brissac Quince with its tallest chateau was a short walk along the river but there didn't seem to be anything else in the town - although it was pouring down when we were there!

One Night Stay

We spent one night here whilst travelling from Calais to Royan. We did have a problem finding the site, but once we realised that we had to go back on ourselves after leaving the AutoRoute we found it quite easily. The site staff were friendly and very helpful, even offering to change our pitch if we didn't like being so close to the entrance. The pitches were large and had service points very close to each pitch. My only criticism was that our electric cable had to pass over a footpath to the next pitch, possibly a trip hazard ? The site facilities were good with swimming pool, restaurant, laundry facilities, games room to name but a few. We didn't use the toilet/shower block, so not able to comment on cleanliness or facilities. I had difficulty finding the chemical waste disposal, there seems to be only one for the site, but it was adequate. We liked the mix of vans, chalet and mobile homes, which made it great for families hiring chalets with grandparents on a pitch next door. There seemed to be a lot of activities available. Great for summer season. We will go back and stay longer next time.
