Good for stoppover

Used for 2 night stopover on way to South. Good pool. Restaurant whilst we were there was superb (hope they are there next year). Pitches are large but not defined. Showers are acceptable, toilet's clean but have an unpleasant odour. Bar had virtually no stock and had to find staff. Shop very limited, totally reliant on restaurant. Small play area for children but pool is good. Ideal as stopover but not we feel for an extended stay unless you want to travel around

Stop over on way to the south

Definately not a five star site ! The toilet and wash facilities are old, run down and smelly ! The gates are padlocked from 9 at night till 9 in the morning, so no chance of an early start ! But on the plus side the staff are very freindly, the food at the restaurant is very good, and the pitches are a nice size !

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for posting your review online.  We are delighted to hear your positive feedback regarding the restaurant, staff and pitches.  If you do ever need to leave a site early in the morning we are more than happy to request an early departure for you in advance.  The sanitary facilities at all our overseas sites are inspected and approved on a yearly basis by qualified overseas site inspectors.  We do appreciate that some are not up to UK standards but if a building is classified (I believe the UK equivalent is listed) there are strict laws regarding renovation or structural changes.

Response from Chateau Leychoisier:

We are surprised and disappointed to hear about this unfortunate incident.  We understand that the sanitary block is in an old building, however, the campsite is indeed situated on a "classified" site which makes it impossible to make any structural changes to the buildings.  As regards the odour, we can only presume that it was possible during a thundery period in the summer, when sometimes the drains can smell.  The septic tanks are emptied regularly and we can only apologise to our customers for this problem that they encountered.

Concerning the opening hours of the gates, we are surprised as I myself (the receptionist) arrive every morning just before 8am and the gates are always open.  The opening time is actually 8am and is displayed around the site.

Stop Over on way to the Spanish Border and on way home again

No way this is a five star campsite ... we used this campsite as a stop over on our way to the South of France, both on our way down and also on our way home again. The first thing we encountered was the very tight gates at the main reception ... im sure there has been a few caravan damaged on them but thank God we squeezed are way through. We had a special pitch booked with on site water and drainage, but when we gor to the pitch which had be special reserved for us i was extremely disappointed at how uneven the pitches were ... they were awful ... not to mention that our drainage had to run up the hill ???? i asked the guy are you sure this is where the drainage has to run to ???? he said yes that was the drainage for my site ... ah dont think i should have listened to him as when we got up the next morning the water had backed up and flooded out over the shower try and all over the bathroom floor ... not a happy bunny to say the least ... must say i couldnt fault the swimming pool but the tennis court was horrific ... had to stop the kids playing on it in case the broke an ankle as it was covered in large crack and lumps of tarmac all over it. The toilets ... needed knocked down and rebuilt ... the restaurant food was good but we were attacked by flies and wasps the whole time during dinner in the end my wife had to just get up and leave as she was scared of getting stung ... the staff ... instead of trying to help just stood and laughed which i thought was a disgrace !!! Must say the Chateau was stunning but this dosent make the site a 5 star site .... compared to other sites i stopped at this would have only made 2 stars if even .... hate to say this but Idont think ill ever be back here

Beautiful site and Chateaux

Stayed 2 nights on this site as we moved towards our goal of Carcassonne. Well positioned, close to the motorway, easy to access. Very photogenic chateaux! Facilities are good, if a little dated & I had a problem getting hot water in the showers. Monsieur et Madame where very friendly, with monsieur happy to serve coffee during his lunchtime. The pitches are large and offer some shade, being arranged either side of avenues of trees, however the trees needed pruning as all caravans brushed against the lower branches. Excellent restaurant run by a very friendly couple who spent the latter part of the evening explaining their concerns over the French political system!!!!! Would certainly recommend the site as a stopover or if you wish to spend a few days in Limoges.

Overnight stay

We stopped off here for one night, as usual, on our way to the Dordogne. It's a lovely site with a beautiful chateau and lots of grounds to walk around. Check out the tree in front of the chateau - think it's an Indian Bean tree. The pitches are big and you can choose your own. It's a perfect stop over place as it's so near to the A20. The loo blocks are not brilliant, but were spotlessly clean. We intend to return and will stay longer to explore the surrounding countryside and will go to see Oradour-sur-Glane, the martyr village.
