Nice Location
We don't normally have many complaints about CC sites wardens, sadly the start of our 3 night stay challenged this.
Having pre booked a non awning pitch, we were on arrival given pitch 11, a sideways-on non awning pitch, because, we were told, they were fully booked and no other pitches were available.
This pitch might be OK for an overnighter but beyond that NO !! Small, irregular, staring straight into the camper in front of us, a matter of feet from the roadway …. goldfish bowl comes to mind absolutely nil privacy. My wife went back to reception to find out why we couldn't use some other empty pitches but she was told they weren't available, my wife even suggested we take an awning pitch and pay extra but she was told none were available. Actually the cost is the same I've now realised.
We tried to find some benefits of the pitch but eventually we chose to pack up and leave and I went to inform the same female warden who dealt with us initially. Immediately she gave me the choice of 2 pitches (99 and 107) that were non awning pitches. I enquired why she hadn't offered us these when we spoke earlier and she replied she would have to "jiggle things around".
We viewed both and accepted 99. During our stay 11 and 107 remained empty as did others. My question is why was the first few hours of our stay so frustratingly wasted ?????
Moving on, the wardens were otherwise pleasant and the site typical CC so no complaints. Yellowcraig is a 5 minute stroll from a beautiful beach, where you can walk for miles. North Berwick is lovely, Edinburgh or Berwick on Tweed aren't far away, and there's plenty to do within a short walk or journey. The Castle Arms in Dirleton is very friendly and serves great food, the castle itself is worth a visit. Locally there is a large Tesco in North Berwick.
