Great location, shame about the daft shower block rules

Nice site. Good location by the beach. Decided against the beach front pitches as were told NO AWNINGS, NO WINDBREAKS. Walked passed after we had pitched and quite a few vans were on the beach pitches with both of these things up! The shower block on our side was a joke. 1 wash cubicle and 1 shower out of 6 was open! For a site with 122 pitches that’s pathetic. Signs plastered all the over the place saying closed due to Covid restrictions. Even two showers open would have been double the distance for social distancing. No shower curtains, no shelf or a place to put clothes etc safely. Shoes etc got wet. Taking it all a bit far. Not all of us can, or want, to shower etc in our vans. We’ve always enjoyed using the club facilities and pay over the odds to stay at club sites versus cl’s. They’re not providing the facilities but no price adjustment to reflect this. Pub up the road had a band which was nice after so long without live music. Well done to them.

Disappointing stay. Tired site in need of investment.

First time on this site. we had a nice friendly welcome from the warden who told us about the two sides to the site, one with sea views and the other without. With the bad weather forecast for the week he suggested we avoid the site with sea views. Glad we took his advice as the weather was pretty grim. Some of the grass pitches became very waterlogged and had to be taped off and with the strong winds we had ongoing noise from the tape flapping in the wind. In heavy rain, the 'entrance' side of the site is inundated with runoff water. The Covid safe rules were inconsistent with other sites and the wardens seemed to be over sensitive and cautious to us. We thought that the shower block should have been open on the morning of 17th as per guidelines but we were told that they would not be open until after cleaning that day. Surely these facilities could have been made ready the day before! Also, the toilet block was closed 15 minutes before the time indicated "to allow for steam to leave the building" before the wardens enter to carry out cleaning. The signs should have displayed this practice. On departure we did see that the wardens implemented the same practices for access to toilet blocks as other sites. We echo the words someone else adding their comments that the wardens were rarely visible and one I did ask about the toilet timing schedule was very defensive and not really sympathetic. I agree with the previous reviewer that wardens really need to be more proactive in speaking to their visitors whilst restrictions are still in place. Throughout the day you could hear a sound like a gun shot, whether this was the local farmer using noises to frighten off birds I don't know but it could get a little annoying. The toilet block and showers were not up to standard and require modernising. We will not be revisiting this particular site.

Like the curate's egg - good in parts

We came home early as the weather was truly appalling. It's a 1pm arrival and 'vans start pouring in on the dot. By the time we arrived later in the afternoon, there was very little choice and we got the last hard standing. Luckily because there was very heavy rain for most of our stay and some of the grass pitches became very waterlogged. In heavy rain, the 'entrance' side of the site is inundated with runoff water. CAMHC need really to look at the drainage as electric bollards and cables were in big pools of water for a while (regular visitors are well aware of this issue apparently). It was a bit interesting!! The site is right on a wonderful shingle and sand beach which is totally dog friendly and so, despite wind and rain, we had some wonderful walks. There is also a bit of a 'prom'. Dog owners beware, however, there are very loud bird scarers in the locality. If you have a noise adverse dog, you might be wise to avoid this site. Our girl spent much of our stay cowering in the bathroom shaking! The wardens were perfectly pleasant on check in, but we rarely saw them thereafter and the one I did ask about gas was less than helpful. The office didn't appear to open until 12.30 and then they are busy with check-ins. Then they close. I agree with the previous reviewer that wardens really need to be more proactive in speaking to their visitors whilst restrictions are still in place. On some other sites we've visited, wardens have been walking around talking to members morning and evening. It makes such a difference. The road to the site is absolutely fine apart from the final few hundred yards, but the access road then goes on further to a commercial site. Cars come down that road far too fast and it was a bit perilous at times dodging cars. There are two nice places to eat and drink within very short walking distance and a tiny shop. Otherwise, there is a good Morrisons supermarket and petrol station (good fuel prices) very close by. We liked the location of the site, weren't too keen on some of the pitches and thought the wardens could do a bit better. The weather's no-one's fault, but it's a long way for us and the 'bangs' are a problem so it's probably a first and last, but otherwise we'd certainly try it again.

Some good aspects, some less so

Pleasant site well laid out in main area, less so on beachside pitches. As usual well maintained, site but cleaning in ladies showers should be better. Friendly welcome from wardens, but as in other C&MC sites with information rooms closed wardens need to be more proactive in local inspiration and knowledge. No information on bus times forthcoming, useful especially for motorhomers.

Great walks and beaches

Stayed 4 nights at this site and it’s just perfect for walking. We walked on the shingle beach to Lowestoft but it was hard going underfoot so caught the bus back to site. The next day we walked to Southwold on the beach which was about 8 miles and it was a fabulous walk all the way, passing by Benacre Ness Nature reserve. Southwold is a lovely place to visit with lots of cafes and pubs. We had coffee and cake at Adnams cafe, then visited their shop to stock up on a few bottles of Blackshore Stout! Caught the bus back to site, £3 each. Our next walk was from Southwold harbour to Walberswick, a pleasant walk along the river Blyth. We had a meal at The Anchor and it was delicious. All in all, a great site, great walks and friendly wardens. Will visit again.

Pleasant site with gorgeous walks and beaches nearby

Pleasant site with gorgeous walks and beaches nearby - walk out to the sea and check cafes/pubs. e.g. walk 5 miles around Kessingland marshes, inland the town, and then walked on to cliffs north and back to site. Co-op about a mile away. Waterfront cafe just beyond th site gate - beyond expectations! Also 7 mile walk along beach to Covehithe and - superb coast, cliffs a geologists dream, and very nice walking. Cycle 35 miles to Gisleham, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Kessingland, Henstead, Wrenham, Richmere, Gisleham and back.

Beachfront Retreat

A perfect stay for us at this great site located right on the sea front. Easy access to the beach and completely quiet with no real road or other noise. Our 2 dogs loved the beach walks which was far better than the shingle description we had seen with plenty of sand and fantastic views of the sunrise facing directly east. The facilities were spotlessly clean and conveniently close to our pitch on the front row. During our stay we ate at the Waterfront Restaurant and Bar just a short stroll from the site - good reasonably priced food and we were made more than welcome by the friendly team there. We would definitely return to this site!

Brilliant site

Great site, fantastic location near the beach. The only criticism I have is the shower blocks, floor soaking wet in the cubicles and difficult to keep your clothes dry due to removal of shower curtain and no shelf space. Staff very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return next year.

Breezy yet brilliant

We haven't been here in a couple of years. it's the first time we've been away just as husband and wife without our teenage son! We we decided to pitch ourselves at the front of the facing the sea. it was a lovely 3 nights away very warm enough to keep the front van window open, and it was quiet on site my one major complaint is the Milton which is used in the toilet blocks I totally understand why. my understanding of Milton is it's a bleach so therefore is not compatible with any clothing. If you I myself didn't use the toilet block as I have a skin condition which is incompatible with bleach which therefore leaves me unable to use the toilet block because I have to pick one of these bands up up because it's only safe to have 2 people in the toilet. Come caravan and motorhome club surely you can think of something a lot better than this so all of us can use the facilities we're paying for?!

Very nice site

Pleasantly surprised. Friendly & helpful welcome, facilities fine, nice walking along the beach and plenty to do in the area. We were also there when the bands were on, they were pretty good, it was a bonus to hear live music after so long without, and they didn't go on too late.
