Nice views but it is flawed

I am slightly confused with the many five star reviews on this site. Yes the views are amazing from almost every pitch. But that is not just what makes an amazing holiday. Some of these reviews state they were allocated a pitch on arrival, we didn't have that, we were given a piece of pipe to put over the pitch marker and a map of available pitches to walk around on foot and find an empty one, go back get your unit, pitch then go back to reception and give them your pith number. The whole process took over an hour with the queueing. I am glad most people find the wardens friendly, we didn't. We drove for over five hours to get there arrived 10 minutes before 1pm and was turned around and told to park (Pay and display) in Tintagel until 1pm. Great! The site offers lovely sea views and great walks. Tintagel is lovely with lots of places to visit. The sites in Bude and Woollacombe all offer great views with nicer facilities and friendlier wardens.

My piece of heaven

Just back from 2nd stay this year. Lovely staff. ALL of them. One great shower block. Very clean and more than adequate. The other is temporary and are portable cabins. Whatever time you are asked to arrive….people will always come earlier. No you can't reserve a pitch but the plus side of that is that you can extend your stay if you wish so and stay on the same pitch. People complain too much these days but remember it is camping and not staying in a 5* resort. If I could I would happily stay there for longer than allowed. Love love love this site and can’t wait to go back there next year. Thank you again to all of the lovely wardens who really work so hard and always had time for us.

Amazing location

The site is well known for its location which is stunning. There are plenty of reviews on here about to tell you about that but I wanted to say thank you to the staff. We had driven over 6 hours and knew we would not be amongst the 1pm arrivals. Having stayed here before we also knew we were perfectly pitched for stunning scenery, great views and challenging walks! The staff deserve a huge thank you. Bev and Pat always had time for a word or two. Bev extended a warm welcome on our arrival and was ready with our piece of pipe and a map showing limited pitch availability. Pat had a good sense of humour and found time to share his thoughts on what to do where to go, he did this in such a way we felt like we knew him already. Mandy is an experienced member of staff and knows her way around the clubs systems. It’s people like Bev and Pat who make the difference, their enthusiasm for their job is a joy to witness. The club need to support their staff and recognise areas in which they can make a difference. At this busy site the amenities (toilet block) washing up area are just not large enough for the number of people. Port-a-loos are not acceptable, we are not at a festival. There was a site inspection whilst we were there. Let’s hope he was looking at improving the site amenities. Or reducing the fee in recognition of lack of adequate amenities. Thanks

A little disapointed

This is a fantastic site but cracks are appearing. When we arrived a little early we were made to wait, it is very difficult to judge time when traveling 360 miles. Whilst we we queuing with members and non members. I overheard a radio conversation between wardens as if to to start letting guest, the reply from the off was "let them wait"...... The portacabin toilet / shower block is like something out of the Ark, no water at the sinks in the ladies, no hot water in the gents, the showers are very small with questionable plumbing. No wet suite washing area In the main toilet block at the dish wash area has a broken hot tap. The shower/toilet area is a little dated. This not what I expect from a premium site, come on Caravan club take a look at your competitors, many commercial site are far superior and better value. Last thing, What is the advantage of being a member, I cant pre book a pitch, no priority arrival times. I feel the club if falling behind and lounging in the past. Will I be back maybe for the great views, will I be member.......

Great views and amazing sunsets but.....

Just spent a five night stay at this site and my first impression was what great scenery and views. Nearly all pitches get a sea view of one sort or another. Facilities were the usual, so nothing really to complain about on that score. BUT.... i was unlucky enough to have opted for a pitch without awning (of which there are only a few) which meant that my pitch was automatically allocated to me on arrival, unlike the rest. The main issue was that the pitch was so close to the main reception and buildings that I had to endure the constant noise from the on site motorized golf cart and mini tractor going back and forth many times a day and sometimes many times an hour (hardly peaceful), MAYBE ITS TIME TO GO ELECTRIC? Another issue which let the site down was an altercation between a male member of staff and a newcomer waiting in arrivals. Apparently, the new comer had made the grave mistake of turning up 10 mins or so before 1pm, which the member of staff seemed to take personally and so allowed other new comers in before the unlucky chap. This lead to an argument between the two directly in front of other campers. Instead of the member of staff defusing the situation (as a professional would) he seemed to do the opposite which lead to some swearing and subsequently the new arrival being turned away. Maybe some training in people skills would be in order as this did nothing for the reputation of the club and the site. By the way the weather was fantastic......

Clifftop location with splendid views

Our 7 night stay was very pleasing because of the natural setting, the staff welcome, the site layout and the pitch chosen. .Plenty of coastal cliff walking, aided by local bus service if needed. We favoured Boscastle over Tintagel but we enjoyed visiting both as well as further afield along this wonderful stretch of coastline. The approach over many miles requires care due to narrow lanes with passing areas which are not always obvious, but do not let that put you off making the journey to this glorious outpost.

Lovely few days despite the weather!

We booked onto this site for 2 nights on our way home following a four night stay in Devon. The weather changed as we arrived at the site, from gloriously hot to foggy, then windy and then very wet, but despite this we really enjoyed a few days on the site. The wardens were excellent, very friendly and helpful, and working hard around the site to keep everything in order. We disagree with the comments in other reviews about the pitch selection process. The nature of the site (long, narrow with short cut-de-sacs) would make it impossible for new arrivals to drive around to find their pitch, so there has to be a walk. And yes, it is uphill, and all those 1.00pm arrivals are rushing around trying to find the best pitch before all the others. But we could not see what other option the site has other to just allocate pitch numbers. The layout ensures that every pitch has a superb view, although, of course the ‘front row’ are the most desirable. The main facilities block was clean and offered plenty of showers and toilets for the site capacity. I am not sure why the club has chosen to set up portakabin facilities higher up the site, there didn't seem to be any pressure on the main ones on the days/nights we were there when the site was just about full, and they are not that far apart either. But then of course, it is your choice if you decide to use them. The site has excellent access onto the coastal path for walks, and a bus stop nearby should you want to get out without your car/motorhome. There is plenty to see and do should you choose to go further but we were happy exploring the local stretch of coast path and enjoying the flora, fauna and views. The changing weather changed the view by the hour. It was our first time at this site, but we will definitely be back to enjoy the site and the location again. A huge thank you to the wardens for their warm welcome and for the few words as we left.

Fabulous sunsets…

Just enjoyed a few days on this beautifully located site. The location, layout & helpfulness of the staff can’t be faulted…there’s a but…at almost £40 per night, I didn’t expect to be presented with below average portacabin facilities. I had a word with myself & tried to use them, but failed as they took me back to rotten campsite facilities in the 80’s. The main toilet & shower block was dated & the cleanliness average: they desperately need an update so I suppose it’s limited what can be achieved. The most ‘fun’ though was the check in process…opens at 1pm with a massive queue of units in a single track lane, with a procedure that wouldn’t have been out of place on Challenge Annika Give your name, pay your balance, then off to hunt around the site for a pitch you fancy with a piece of plastic pipe to ‘reserve’ then back to give the number to the office & collect your prize of your gate key…now I’m a fairly fit half marathon runner, but even for me it was a hike up to the top of the site…& when I asked if we could hold a place for our friends who were about 10 units behind us & didn’t want to jump or hold the queue up by leaving the vehicle, I was told ‘there’s no reserving of pitches’ but they’re just behind us…still no & subsequently we spent a few days carrying food backwards & forwards between pitches as we ended up not being next to each other. Not a biggie, but a shame non the less. So, in summary, we had a great stay but think some facilities & procedures could use a bit if an update.

A lovely site with some buts!

The site is in an excellent location with beautiful scenery and walks (which are a little strenuous as they are along the coast path). Most pitches have a view of the sea, especially on the grass in the top field. The location presumably explains the high prices. It isn’t really good enough to supplement dated facilities (the shower leaked more water than in provided) by portacabins when these aren’t easily accessible by those with mobility issues, especially at the prices charged. The wardens were excellent as was the little shop. What did let it down I am sorry to say were our fellow visitors. Speeding cars (do you really need to speed up the field for 200 metres to catch the end of the sunset or to drive round in your car just to have a look?), and taking your dog onto the tent pitches just for it to defecate is really not acceptable. The wardens also deserve the patience of the year award for not reacting to dogs being allowed to bark aggressively at them! An outstanding site with the usual outstanding wardens but in need of a little investment

Club Wardens went WAY beyond what was expected of them…….

The day following my previous review I became very unwell and my wife sought help and advice from the site Wardens. After learning of my problems Mandy (previously medically qualified) advised my wife to call the emergency services which she did. Both Mandy and colleague warden Elaine (also previously medically qualified) attended us in our caravan and monitored my well-being until the paramedics arrived which was over three hours later. Their commitment to us both was very much appreciated by us which we considered went way beyond their ‘call of duty’. The Paramedics decided I was taken to Truro Hospital where I remained under close observation all day and was finally discharged at mid-night for return to our caravan. We couldn’t have wished for better support and empathy than we received from both Mandy and Elaine and the simple moral being if you are ever unfortunate enough to receive medical help and attention whilst at Trewethett we couldn’t have been in a better place. Thank you so much for all the help and support they gave us throughout this whole ordeal.
