Unbeatable location but the facilities need updating

We arrived at Trewethett Farm mid afternoon after driving over from South Devon. We received a warm welcome and good advice about which pitches would suit us as we wanted grass with EHU because we had the dog with us. We found a pitch with great views, just above the tent area, very slightly sloping but convenient for water, bins and CDP. We stayed for 6 nights, had to wind the awning in and rescue our windbreak on the first night because of the wind, but the rest of our stay was great, with very pleasant weather. A great site for exploring the local area and also for the dog as it is right by the SW Coast path so no shortage of places for walking him. My only gripe is the facilities. At around £40 night I expect better than a couple of aged portacabins for loos and showers. I know there is also a facilities block a few minutes walk away, but this too is a little tired and in need of an update. I cannot however criticise the site staff, who do their utmost to keep the facilities clean and tidy. I did hear a rumour that they have been granted planning for a new, eco-friendly facilities block so I would certainly be interested in returning once this has been built. In summary, a fab location, great staff but with tired facilities.

Amazing site made even better by the quality of the staff

Stayed at this fabulous site for 5 days in July, only wish it could have been longer! All the reviews mention the fabulous views etc, but I want to stress that it is the wardens that help make this site great. We arrived on time knowing we would be able to choose a pitch, but I was totally confused about where the pitches were , couldn't work out the map! I was rescued by one if the male wardens who showed me to a good pitch that was vacant. The following 5 days, we watched just how hard the wardens worked, taking it in their stride when somebody became poorly and a helicopter had to land ... all in a days work for them. The site was kept spotless, the facilities always clean and the shop was well stocked. I loved the story of the development of the site in the information room. I must mention the wardens Beth and Mandy, who allowed us to move to a superb pitch on our second day, nobody had requested to move there and I asked if we could move, something we have never done before! In this case it was worth the effort for us as we had 4 lovely days of sunshine, beautiful views and excellent walks along the coastal path. I would love to visit here again. Thank you to all the wardens here who made our stay very special for us.

What a view!

Fantastic views, lovely site clean and immaculate pitch areas, friendly helpful staff, peaceful, great access to coastal paths. Wish I had been able to stay longer and will definitely visit again. This is a cliff top site so the ocean views are incredible and the sundown hours are beautiful, check the weather and wind forecast and if it’s blowing a breeze in the night and you are in a pop top camper it’s best to close it before bed to get a quiet nights sleep. By far the nicest site I stayed in the area, highly recommend!

Could not have wanted better!

This place has the best views and is brilliant! Staff are really friendly and the site is well looked after. Follow the site directions not your sat nav otherwise you will end up down a steep narrow single track road. We have a 10m RV and that wasn’t an issue for them, but we did have to call ahead and they allocated us a place prior to arrival. They are strict on the 1pm entry, but if you are there a while, turning up late doesn’t matter as people leave every day and you can easily move pitch. Great for walks and beautiful views of the north Cornwall coast. There is a lovely beach down one of the paths and it’s certainly worth it but check the tides as it isn’t there at high tide. For us it was the perfect base to then go out having a fantastic holiday in the region. We were fortunate that we had a tow car, though our neighbours did hire a car and it was delivered to the site. The best pub we found was a 15 minute drive away, The Port William at Trebarwith Strand, it was a great night with good food and a stunning location over looking the sea. There is a Pizza van on site twice a week and the food is excellent. Oh and a tip for the lads, in the main shower block the first shower is by far the best and doles out masses of piping hot water! I expect the people who moan about the place are those that tried to bend the 1pm entry and didn’t like the outcome, so have an axe to grind. Play fair and respectful and you will not find fault here.

Well worth a visit

Visited this site twice in August. Quite a find though a little off the beaten track. Clean and tidy site and very extensive spread of pitches. Great views and sunsets. I have mixed feelings about the strictly enforced arrival time. There is room to park up but on my second visit my timing was out and I was treated a little like a child and scolded for arriving at 12.45pm. I was informed that they could send me away and back up the road. They graciously allowed me to wait in van. I can understand the need to try and keep arrivals back till 1pm but no need to be so regimental about it nor exercise such intolerance. Seems to be an issue at this site. Enjoyed my stays however and will go back. Was a little surprised at empty ice cream fridge. There was one box of chocolate ice cream lollies left when I went containing four units. I was told I had to buy the lot as they cannot sell separately which is rather odd as this deprived three other people of their treat. There was no restriction printed on wrappers banning single sales. Warden very strict about this it was either four or none. Strange.

Excellent site, friendly staff and great location

This site is very well run and a beautiful location (if not a bit difficult to get to with the narrow roads). The facilities were clean, the pitches were big and most had sea views, although some were in slightly better spots than others. I don't understand why people have complained about the staff, they were wonderful throughout, very friendly. People did try to arrive too early and they would get very angry when told to turn away which I personally think the staff dealt with as best they could considering some of these people were incredibly rude. The arrival time is clear and I had several messages and emails beforehand. I think it's particularly important at this site because there are some pitches that are highly desirable and I can imagine people turning up early to try to get one. Can't fault this site at all though, the only disappointment during the stay was that the pizza van didn't do garlic bread. Thanks for a great holiday.

Excellent well run site

I can’t really understand people complaining about turning up early when it’s clearly posted , anyway onto the review I felt very welcomed by the wardens ( they even kept the kids on bikes under control) I think the site is great , very clean , well stocked shop and all wardens were super helpful , will definitely return

relaxing with a beautiful view

New club members to our very first club site. Arrival process was smooth and we loved that we could go and select our own pitch........wish we were earlier for better views but not complaining with the view we did have. No issues throughout and the stay was very pleasant. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Excellent location for coastal walks. We walked to tintagel and it was nothing short than spectacular. Firm add to the favourites list and we will return.

Eleven nights in July

Firstly our experience of arrival was nothing like that described by others recently, and for a very good reason. We never aim to arrive at site at or soon after 1pm, and don't understand those who do to be honest. It's much more relaxing to arrive mid-afternoon, no rushing around to get there, no queues on arrival, just book-in and drive around to choose a pitch then let the office know the number after pitching. No risk of meeting anyone on narrow lanes who has just left site, which used to be a real issue when midday was the time for leaving an arriving. Leave by midday and arrive after 1pm is much better and less stressful for those leaving late morning, which we usually do so that packing-up isn't a rush. Even though we've already stayed at a couple of sites since the arrival time was changed, we had a phone call from the warden the day before we left to make sure we were aware. I don't see how they could do more. Most pitches here have stunning views, so it's not vitally important to be first to arrive and grab the 'best' view. You can easily move pitch later, the wardens really don't mind this so long as you let them know first. We did this after being on site four nights, even though we had a caravan and awning to uproot it only took an hour. We don't like complaining about people, so we moved because of thoughtless noisy neighbours playing music and talking at a shout all hours, who also had four dogs often loose on site. We did end up with a much better view though, which was a lovely bonus! We left a message for the warden as the office was shut, and bless him he came down on the buggy to see us and swap barrier cards. I think it is sensible to move before one-o-clock though to avoid clashing with new arrivals. If you're in a motorhome I should think moving is even easier. If people do arrive dead on one o'clock in order to nab the 'best' pitches, I don't know why they think it will necessarily be the pitches with the best views that are empty. Chances are the 'best' ones will still be occupied, unless you're really lucky, so bide your time and move when you can if you care about the pitch location that much. Just one last point on arrival times. I see some commenting 'only ten minutes early'. The problem is, once it is accepted that you can be ten minutes early and get on-site, or be at the front of the queue, then some bright spark will turn up ten minutes before that and say, 'well I'm only ten minutes earlier' It's just not reasonable to put the wardens under such pressure. Be considerate, give yourself a break, treat a holiday as a holiday not a competition to win, and you'll have a much better stay for it. Enough about that! The site is stunning. Expensive in school holidays, so won't book then again. Refit only six years ago but already looking a bit tired, and while we were there the electric hook-ups failed in the field due to water ingress. We had a solar panel with us so not a big issue, but some weren't happy.
