Plus and minus

We arrived at the end of a race day! So we weren't allowed onto our pitch until the temporary car park was empty. This explained to us before we arrived. We had a warm and friendly informative welcome, and throughout our stay I found the staff to be friendly and approachable. The whole site is laid to grass, and is well kept. The facility's are very dated! However they were clean, the showers are a little tricky, but adequate. The town is a five minute walk away and has everything you'd expect for a small market town. However the only thing for me is the constant road noise! It's loud and relentless and completely out of the hands of the club! We were worken at 07:00 with deliverys to Lidl, and the boy racers love the lane that runs parallel to the site.

Poor facilaties

Visited site for a week. Found site great for visiting area. Wardens great at keeping site in order. Very disappointed with the facilities especially the toilets. Found stepping in and out of showers difficult and dangerous. The water points are a disgrace a pavement slab on a slope between caravans muddy and dirty. The elsan disposal is cleaned by the warden, but most times later in day or evening there is no way of cleaning with water as there is no pipe from tap. The waste water is next to it and very awkward to clean waste carriers. I would imagine the germs in hot weather would have field day. I know that Thirsk own the site but surly some money can be spent on the site. Maybe some money that was spent on the new look logo's and uniforms could have been spent here. I feel very sorry for the wardens. I know one of the water points was out of order because of bee's nearby. I will not be returning to this site again

Good location

It's horses for courses!! In my opinion it's an excellent site for a stopover being 5 mins walk to town, and two supermarkets next door, but not a site I would chose for weeks holiday. The handbook is misrepresentative, in that it states ' you will be pitched within site of the main stand with the famous turf before you', which is not true, unless you are one of the lucky ones. As for the facilities, they are more than adequate, although toilets and showers could do with an update.I don't see how you can complain for £15 per night. The wardens were very welcoming and helpful. It is along side an A road so inevitably quite noisy, but it wasn't a problem through the night. I would definitely stop here again if in the area.

Ingnore the negative Reviews !!!!

We Have visited this site on several occasions and have had a great stay every time . A warm and friendly welcom was received by the wardens on every visit . They work hard to make the site look welcoming and they keep the showers and toilets spotless and do not deserve the negative comments they have received in previous reviews They are not responsible for the upkeep of the grass etc as this site is owned by the racecourse who carry out the ground work And in all fairness I have stayed on far more expensive Cl sites with no facilities in the middle of nowhere . . Don,t let the negative comments put you off visiting this lovely race course site . 👍

Same As ....One night and will not be returning !

I have just read the previous review and wholeheartedly agree with what the previous reviewer stated. Plus Not enough water points around the site. I realise that this site is cheaper than the normal CC sites but it is in serious need of renovation. There is bound to be road noise. I also do not like the no security aspect of the site. I have to say though the wardens are very friendly and helpful.

One night and will not be returning !

Pleasant welcome from wardens. Good instructions to find the site. However there is no security at all and reception is at furthest point from entrance gate, therefore staff can't see people coming and going. Convenient for shops and restaurants and of course the racehorse. We booked a caravan and motor home site as we know what the standard is going to be. How wrong we were ! Showers are small and very outdated. I couldn't regulate the shower.....it kept going from hot to very cold. Having read a previous review with a response from the warden I suggest either wardens explain the shower settings on arrival or put up signs in the toilet block. I used the toilet 3 times and on 2 of those there was no toilet paper in 1 of the 3 cubicles. As for the shower there were bits of hair on the drain in the shower, there were lumps of hair on the floor of the shower dressing area and the drain within the floor in the shower dressing area was all gummed up with hair. It made me feel ill then and again now when I am writing this. We will not be back unless the club completely rebuild the toilet block.

Response from the Club:

Hi AndrewMaureen,

Thank you for leaving your review and I'm sorry your experience on your recent visit didn't meet your expectations.

As you know, the site office at this site isn't directly at the entrance. We have no current plans for re-developing the site to move this closer to the entrance point. If any visitor has specific security concerns whilst staying with us, then please do let us know.

We regularly check the toilet blocks to see if any supplies need to be replenished; we're sorry you found this not to be the case in one of the cubicles. The toilet blocks are cleaned thoroughly every day and I'm sure you can appreciate that we rely on visitors to leave them as we expect to find them. We've taken your feedback on board and instructions are now available for regulating the showers.

The facilities themselves are owned and maintained by Thirsk Racecourse so on this site, any upgrade is out of the control of the Club. However, we have taken your comments on board and hope you continue to expect high standards from our sites.

Week break

Just had a week break on this site and I have stayed here many times over previous years. Great location and nice and quiet. Just a couple of things, the Elsan disposable could do with being improved, even just a hose attached so it could be rinsed clean. Would be good to see recycle bins introduced to reduce general waste. Toilet block and facilities all clean. Great stay and will be back on several more occasions.

Raceday Stay

We stayed for the first time and for one night on a Raceday Saturday 22nd April. The location is fantastic for the racing and as we arrived just before it started and are Go Racing In Yorkshire members we were allowed to park in the actual site. We learnt that ordinarily on race days you have to move to the Ralley Field as the site is used for race goers parking - I can imagine that moving off and then back onto the site might be a but annonying. We didn't use the facilities so can't comment on them but we will definitely be staying there again on future race days. Having read other reviews all I can say is that for the price what do people expect??

Bizaare

Thought we would try this as a stopover as we have never tried a racecourse site before. The Pros are that it is situated opposite a large Tesco for topping up provisions and a 24 hour garage . The cons are as other members have mentioned regarding the showers but also there is no security for the site just a very big wide open gate [ at all times] with the wardens office a long way away on the other side of the site . The site electrics are antiquated [ 10A ] and would not accept the load of a standard domestic kettle ! The minor road behind the site is a favourite for boy racers with loud exhaust systems [ not the clubs fault ] and some of the pitches are behind a lidyl supermarket which accept deliveries from very early in the morning . So in conclusion nowhere near what you would expect from the Caravan and Motorhome club would I use it again ? Only for a one night stopover but would be selective where we parked up.

First Time Visit

This was our first time at Thirsk CC site and let me say that the ward is were extremely helpful & friendly and this review in no way reflects them. Firstly the showers are horrendous! There were 3 cubicles in the ladies and we nick named them the doll showers! I'm 5'3" a size 10 and really struggled for space to get dry & dressed. There are no barriers on the site and the wardens are based at the back of the site. This site is based on a very busy road with no facilities or areas for children to play. In opinion this site needs a massive overhaul and is nowhere near the high standards of the othersites we have stayed on. There were 4 families in total & we will not be returning.
