Bank holiday weekend

A beautiful site, incredibly peaceful even over bank holiday weekend with quite a few kids about (including our three). What a great place to just chill and wander in the surrounding woods etc. The lack of a toilet/shower block is not a major issue, but did significantly reduce our getting ready times since the caravan couldn't produce 5 showers of hot water. The site is very tidy and attractive, we were on a grass pitch since on arrival there were only 5 pitches left but it was very pleasant, the wardens were very friendly and helpful too.

Back to Nature

This site is in a forest setting  as the name implies with many tall pine trees. Non-members are accepted but not tents. On this site you have to have your own facilities as the site does not have a toilet block. There are 83 pitches in total, 37 of them being on hardstandings the rest on glass. The hardstandings are in an arc from reception along one side of the site. Some of the grass pitches are in natural glades amongst the trees. Electric points, rated at 16 amps and using CEE17 blue connectors, are conveniently placed to pitches. Fresh and waste water points, as well as chemical disposal are placed at regular intervals around the site. The motorhome service point requires you to reverse in with emptying drains on both sides, however they still require heavy drain covers to be removed to access the drain points. The site also has a storage facility. There appear to be some seasonal pitches on this site. According to the handbook TV reception is poor although we were able to use our satellite dish but this will require choosing your pitch carefully to allow a clear view of the sky. There is site wide WiFi which works reasonably well given the remoteness of the site, time can be purchased online. At the front of the site there is an information hut and at reception some essentials can be purchased. There are no specific play area for children although with immediate access to the forest areas older ones will no doubt enjoy that. You may even be lucky enough to see deer on the site. This site is quite remote from habitation so without your own transport the only other options are walking and cycling, there is no public transport within easy reach. The site is very restful if you want some R&R or perhaps would be a good stopping off point when going to the coast. If you can make use of the mid-week discount sites fees are very reasonable, in fact cheaper than many CL’s. There are many options for walks from the site. For the less active the Desert Rats Memorial and circuit of the old training ground might be ideal. For shopping Swaffham is probably the best bet with both Waitrose and Tesco supermarkets. The site is within the area known as Breckland.

Back on our favourite site

Nice to get back to our favourite site, relief wardens very nice, picked the wrong days, as training going on Stanford battle area, but soon got used to it, other wise very peaceful. Shame about the speeders on the site, and most of these are 'mature' drivers who should know better. Would be nice if who ever owned the concrete road (assumed to be the forestry commission) could patch up the road leading to the site, whilst it keeps the speed down, it don't do much for stuff in the van, sounds like a lot of moaning, but not intended that way, just putting my views over.

A Quiet Relaxing Easter

On arrival we met the friendly Wardens that clearly had a sense of humour and welcomed us with a very informal and helpful introduction to the site. We arrived together with another unit and we were able to find two neighbouring hardstand pitches. The site is within a the Thetford Forest and enjoyed walking freely with deer roaming nearby and birds singing at the top of their voices. This site is without a facility block or children’s playground therefore suits a camper that is happy using on board facilities. The site was close to full over the Easter weekend but with good sized pitches and some vans hiding in the trees, it didn't seem that busy. The only problem all Caravan Club sites seem to suffer with these days is speeding cars. We were surprised by vehicles moving around the site too fast, even when children were on their bikes and playing on the site. That said, we had a lovely weekend and will definitely return in the future.

Brilliant Site

Thoroughly enjoyed my short stay here. Wardens were brilliant. Lovely quiet site. Loved it here. No pub or shops, but if you have stocked up beforehand not a problem.

A Top Start to the Season at Thetford

Just returned from an enjoyable peaceful weekend at Thetford Forest. Helpful wardens (trying to please all with troublesome wifi - and succeeding), well presented site, level pitches (well 42 was) and the feeling of an oasis from the maddening world. Do not be put of by no toilet block. FYI - easy tow for caravanners and good MWP for Motorhomers. Enjoy........
