Great location, really easy access
Just returned from 16 night stay at The Sandringham Club site. Really easy access, makes a nice change. Check in OK. Large site which was very full with big turnarounds almost every day which is probably why they couldn't tell me which pitches were free, just to drive around and pick one. Not much choice and all the better pitches were occupied so decided on a grass pitch. Although they didn't look it a lot of the pitches were very sloping and chocks/stacker pads will be required on most pitches. Grass areas in general were very poor mostly down to the abundance of rabbits who appeared to have little fear of people as they were out 24/7. They had clearly been digging everywhere with holes all over the place. Its OK to put up a sign to say beware rabbits but filling in the holes and re-seeding would have been better. Although there were several wardens they did not spend much time around the site apart from on their tractors attending to the waste areas. Wi-fi on the site is not good even the 'hotspot' was poor. The top area of the site seemed a bit higher and we sometimes got a better reception up there. TV reception is poor so we needed to use the booster provided. The dog walk on site is very small and unusually it states to keep your dog on a lead? Not much use if you have an energetic dog who likes to retrieve a ball! Lots of walks through the woods but not every dog likes to walk through woods with in places narrow paths through the ferns. I would highly recommend taking insect repellent we were bitten to pieces, my husband looked like he had measles. Access to Sandringham House takes approx 40 mins to walk, only available currently if pre booked ( £20 per person and only a few downstairs rooms open, and I believe not open July/Aug as HRH is in residence)and they wont allow dogs into the gardens. At most NT houses we visit one of us sits outside the house while the other one goes in and then we swap, can't do this there as not allowed anywhere near house with the dog. Unfortunately you can't see the house from anywhere unless you want to pay to go in .We drove to their car park £3.50 for 2 hours and had a walk around the estate and a coffee in the cafe. If the church is open it is well worth a visit the inside is quite spectacular, and you can take your dog in as well! We were lucky to see the fantastic display of rhododendrons which grow like weeds. A drive to Wolverton is worthwhile to see The Royal Station which was decommissioned in 1966 but has been beautifully maintained by private owners, it is currently closed due to covid but you can take pictures and the history is one their website. Wells next the Sea is a charming little place well worth a visit.
