Pleasant but........

Now that the new season is here can we just warn anyone intending to stay here to be extra vigilant and careful where they site their van.We were here at the end of August last year and parked in an area where there are no trees just fencing. We were having our evening meal when we were suddenly pelted by stones thrown by local yobs(yes even Gloucester has them!). The damage to our caravan ran into hundreds of pounds and we even our car was hit.How we weren't injured is a miracle. Wardens simply said it had happened before and we could claim on our insurance.Apparently the area in question was cordoned off but don't know if it still is.We were told that a lady had previously been injured by a flying stone. If you must stay here then just be careful-it has cost us a lot of money and could have been avoided if steps had been taken earlier to prevent this happening. We were sitting targets.

Comment from The Club:

As you have quite rightly stated, we had unfortunately suffered a small number of incidents of stone throwing by local children during your stay. As all incidents were within a very small window and had been reported at the time to the local Police, it was trusted that this was an isolated occurrence and there was no reason at the time to believe this would continue.

Once it had become evident that this was not an isolated occurrence, an immediate decision was taken by The Caravan Club to remove the usage of a number of pitches that were at risk of further attack and as such we regrettably had to cancel a number of bookings as our reduced capacity could not accommodate our bookings however I am sure you will agree this was the most sensible option and demonstrates a care of duty to our members.

Please be assured that through working closely with the Head Teacher of the local School and assisting the Police in their investigations by providing CCTV footage as well as digital images the wardens had managed to capture on their camera phones, these matters were promptly dealt with within the community and no further occurrences have since taken place. We do not consider there to be any further risk at this site but we are very sorry that you were affected by this during your stay.

2nd Stay

This was our second visit to this site. It is good but several points let it down. Firstly the area is prone to flooding and it has no hard standing pitches so when the weather is wet as it was just prior to us going I did receive a call from the site warning us that the ground is very soft for motorhomes. I cannot understand why they do not have hard standing pitches and they do not have the equipment to pull motorhomes off pitches if they get stuck. Secondly the hot water especially at the pot wash is non-existant and takes an age to wash up. It has a lovely location right next to the abbey and the staff are always helpful and friendly.

Low lying site

It was our first visit and we were very pleased with the cleanliness of the site and the toilet block. The closeness of the Abbey and the town were a five minute walk away. The problem came when we were due to leave, the ground was wet and the motorhome became stuck in the mud. After we made further attempts a volunteer from the surrounding crowd towed us to the roadway. By then the motorhome was covered in mud, splashed up from the spinning wheels. We later learnt that the warden had old carpets for such a common occurrence. It would have been helpful if only we had been told before we tried to move off about these mats.

First Outing

It's our fist run of the year, just making sure all is ok before we set off to France for two months plus. Tewkesbury Abbey site is so convenient for town, a well laid out site, very quiet and clean with wardens who appear that nothing is too much trouble for them. Would thoroughly recommend and no doubt will be visiting again in the near future.

1st Visit

Our first visit to this site, the welcome was as I expect warm, friendly and welcoming. I was given a comprehensive briefing and allowed to find my own pitch. This site has no hard standings and the ground was a little sticky. Some confusion with white posts closing off access to inner areas and also white pitch markers. Some pitches are very short and the narrow site roads made for awkward reversing the caravan onto the pitch. I did not find the Abbey bells at all intrusive, but the local youths made their presence felt. There is a children's playground off the site (out of the main gate and turn left). Tewkesbury town is a short walk away and access to Gloucester and Worcester etc. is easy, by car or bus.

The Bells, The maddening Bells....

This site is situated in a lovely part on the Midlands.  Nice facilities, very spacious pitches and a large play area close by for the kids.  The town is full of History and nicknack shops for the ladies to look in.  The only downer to the site (if any) is the BELLS...  The Abby chimes the Bells for every house of the day.  1 for one o'clock, 2 for two o'clock.  Sounds nice in the day but come 10pm, 11pm 12pm it can drive you insane.  If you do stay, pitch far away from the Abby and the carpark close to the entrance as thats were the local teenagers hang out at night.  No hassle from them just noise.
