Wow! Someone’s pulled out all the stops at Southport? Just returned from two happy nights at this newly refurbished site, the site is pristine with new turf between pitches and two excellent toilet blocks and the staff helpful and friendly. If I were to find fault at all, it would be the lack of a kiddies play area for those times when Mum is cooking the tea and Dad wants to just to sit in the setting sun with a glass in hand while supervising the kids burn up those last drops of energy before bed.
The location of the site makes it an ideal venue for both young and old, everything is within easy walking distance. An obvious attraction is the beach and sand hills, a bird spotters paradise, although you may need binoculars to see the sea if the tides out or a walk out along the pier. Across the promenade there’s a funfair and Splash World for the kids, park with a good free play area across the lake, where you can take a trip or hire a boat. For the shopaholics, Lord Street with its Victorian facades is the place to head for. For the nature lovers and walkers, the sand hills and pine forests of Ainsdale, Freshfields and Formby are great places to explore and are home to Red Squirrels and the rare Natterjack toad and rich in birdlife and within easy reach of the Merseyrail line taking you into Liverpool city centre.
If you haven’t visited Southport before, it’s well worth a trip.
PRE VISIT LOOK
Having booked a stay at Southport in May we thought a look at the new extension would be a good idea. This we did today and how disappointed we were with what we saw. No shrubs - no trees - lots of gravel. There is going to be no shade if we have a hot summer and no privacy between vans. Needless to say we have changed our booking.

April short stay
Stopped at the site early April and enjoyed excellent weather. The site is just within walking distance of the town, about 30mins at an easy pace.
We camped on the new extension which was clean and tidy. There is occasional noise from the nearby esplanade road, but not too bad.
I feel a few points let the site down:
- no Wi Fi signal in the new area - staff were chasing the supplier.
- no newspapers in the morning - the newsagent no longer will deliver.
- lack of a turning circle at end of new area -I had to make a tricky 3 point turn when first on site.
Overall a good site for exploring the area and we will be back.

Southport club site
This was the first time that we had used a club site for some time (Easter weekend) but we thought there was too much tarmac and gravel. My biggest gripe is why I could not book an awning pitch when the majority of pitches were occupied by caravans and motorhomes with no awnings up.The club should look at charging extra at bank holidays or peak periods if you want a pitch for an awning otherwise an excellent site near to the town and other attractions
money invested well
had two night stay 8 to 10 th april 2015, weather was excellent for time of year. Found staff helpfull as I have only ust purchased my campervan and needed a bit of advice. facillities and location great, good dog walks close to site along with shops etc. will be going again soon thanks
southport extension
Stayed on the new extension for the first time over Easter. It looks nicely laid out although it might benefit from a few more shrubs and floral additions. We noticed some people going into the toilet block by climbing over the new fence, assumed they were desperate and pitch 112 was flooded upto about 10 cms.Apart from these minor things we thought its a great addition to a popular site
Nice weather for ducks
Has to be said that we had a very windy wet and cold week, but the site is very well run and staff are friendly. all you need is very close by, supermarkets shops etc. we loved our trip into Liverpool and got a site seeing bus around the city. We were here especially to go to Crosby to see Anthony Gormleys men on the beach. Well worth our long trip just for that.

Enjoyable CC site
We had our first visit to this site over Easter (15) and found it to be very pleasant with easy walking access to miles of sand dunes to walk through and only a short (10 min) walk into the town through the park. Parents with children should take them into the park over the weekend to see if the model trains, boats and cars all working. We will happily return next year for another visit. My only negative is that there are no tv booster/hook ups despite the handbook stating reception is variable.
Wet and Windy 2
I think we must have been here at the same time as the last reviewer! Despite the weather we had a great time. The site facilities are new and as you would expect, first class. The underfloor heating gets my wife's vote.
The site is within easy walking distance of the town centre with a Morrisons supermarket a short stroll away through the adjacent park.
Southport it's self is a pleasant town with all of the seaside things required for visitors with children. The pier in particular is spectacular. For shopping etc Lord Street is the place to go.
For trips further afield, there are trains every 15 mins to Liverpool. Both Southport and Birkdale stations are within walking distance.
One thing that should not be missed is Anthony Gormley's "Another Place" installation at Crosby beach. This consists of 100 life sized statues placed in the sand looking out to sea. It stretches for over 2 miles and is very atmospheric.
Ceoliac sufferers such as my wife and others requiring a gluten free (GF) diet will find excellent gluten free fish and chips available from the Fylde Fish Bar. They have 2 shops, the Marshside one to the north of Southport has GF fish and chips on Sunday nights and the Birkdale site on Monday nights. The Westminster tea room on Lord Street has an extensive GF menu including a full afternoon tea with GF cakes and sandwiches. It is a step back to the 1930s going in to the tea rooms.
This excellent club site and the town of Southport are well worth a visit.

Very Good Site
Wet and very windy while we were there but still a very good site. Lovely new toilet block, friendly wardens and easy access to the centre of Southport.
The site is next to a large park with children's playground. Plenty of places to visit outside Southport such as Rufford Hall, Martin Mere, Crosby, Formby and of course Liverpool. Highly recommended.
